  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It was left out, and it bugs me.

Okay, I come from a modest background, and this is the nicest car we've ever owned. So far, I'm very pleased with it. However, it bugs me the rear seats are not heated. We bought a 2011 Sonata Limited when they first came out, and the rear seats were heated. Why the downgrade on an upgraded car? It's not a real big deal, it just bugs me.

What feature(s) are missing, that you think should have been included?

For some reason the Genesis only has heated rear seats and steering wheel with AWD. RWD cars do not come with those options.

I have base line trim 16 genesis, and it's still more then I need, the ooonly thing I wish it had that it doesn't is the little electronic break hold. I stop at alot of lights, and my last cars breaks were so shit that pushing the break on this genesis has been working the tar out of my calf lol

I also wish the turning signal was the day time running lights blinking amber, but I'm going to be changing that by purchasing some kdm g80 lights on ebay

LOL, I'm in Texas too, and I wish the car had a heated steering wheel (I have an Ultimate RWD - the AWD would have had that feature, as well as the heated rear seats). All you Canadians, Minnesnowtans, Michiganders, New Englander's and other northern state inhabitants can laugh all you want, my blood has thinned down here and I want a heated steering wheel below 50F/10C ...

Also missing in my opinion:

- adaptive headlights (unforgivable oversight in my opinion, even VW Golf's have that as an optional feature)
- flog lights - front and rear
- ability to display and/or read text message through the multimedia system
- Apple Car Play / Android Auto on the Ultimate spec cars
- working voice recognition on the navigation system (80% failure rate on my 2015 Ultimate)
- folding rear seats (the little ski opening thing is too small for most items, I can't even get my big ladder in the back of the Genesis)
- memory function for: heated/cooled seats setting, auto hold setting, drive mode setting, and adaptive cruise control (every time I enter the car, I press four buttons before I drive to turn all these things on).
- consistent sound output level between different audio sources
- automatic re-connection to Bluetooth audio source after restart of the car
- startup volume setting for audio system (if you leave the car having played something from Bluetooth, and you get back in it will change to another audio input and blast the music way too loud in some cases)
- different sized/shaped controls for adjustment of audio system vs climate control settings - having the same sized knobs within 2 inches of each other is stupid - even the Hyundai corporate person driving with me got this wrong twice in 20 minutes when trying to adjust the temperature in the car

These are things I can come up with in 10 minutes, probably more if I think about it some more ...

If it helps, the Heated Rear Seats can be a PITA for rear passengers due to the thoughtless position of the switches. They are basically flush with the top surface of the centre armrest and inevitably get switched on accidentally by somebody resting their arm there. Roasted Rump follows! There are a number of aftermarket suppliers of heated seat pads, check with your local auto trim shop. I'm sure you could find the OEM switch panel somewhere. Who knows, the wiring harness may already be in place (just guessing).

5.0 non ultimate here... Could care less about heated rear seats, but wish it had a heated steering wheel. Also wish it had a subwoofer that was actually worth a crap. And while we are complaining I want sport mode to actually use 8th gear at normal speed...

Why is the sunroof not on retained accessory power like the windows? I'm constantly forgetting to close it before shutting off the car.

Oh my...You did hit on a few I'd not thought about. The climate & volume knobs...My wife keeps reaching over and turning the wrong knob...And the poor voice recognition. It was lousy in the 2011 Sonata. Thought they'd have that right by now. My mid-level RAM pickup works better ( and will read my phone texts for me )..

Maybe if you spent the extra $$ and have gotten the Ultimate model, you would have this. So in reality, nothing was "left out" you just had to spend the extra money to get the stuff you wanted

Even the top of the line ultimate V8 is not available with heated rear seats as it only comes with AWD and this combo is not available in the USA so yes it was left out. I do believe even the least equipped base models has them as long as it has AWD.

You are correct. Of course the V6 Ultimate AWD was available in the USA and did have the heated steering wheel and rear seats.

There have been a lot of things left out from the KDM version of the Genesis (which costs a lot more than USA versions) going all the way back to 2009. They had to draw the line somewhere, and not everyone is happy with where that line is drawn.

The 2017 G80 V8 AWD version is now available in the USA, so the fully loaded version in the USA does have heated steering wheel and rear seats.

Yeah pretty crappy. My old 2007 Chrysler Aspen (pseudo lux) had rear heated seats. In fact, I believe Hyundai offered rear heated seats on even the low buck Elantra way back then. Hyundai has been known for offering a lot of bang for the buck, but not being standard on the base high end model? Really?

I remember complaining about all the nice things in the German, UK, and UAE versions of the Genesis and several of the contributors here gave me grief about it. (Paraphrasing here) "Well, nobody in America wants to pay for what they get. Our cars cost 15-20k more USD than yours." I was all about the soft close doors, and ambient strip lighting in the ceiling and complaining that our US cars didn't have photon torpedoes. "Where's the photon torpedoes??" I suspect that the most "bare bones" Genesis are the ones sold in the USA, while the best are probably destined for Germany where they have to buck M-B, BMW, and Porsche.

  • The Mercedes E Class does not offer heated rear seats on any trim level or option (the Genesis G80 AWD provides heated rear seats on all trim levels).
  • Heated front seats is not standard on the Mercedes E Class (is standard on ALL Genesis G80 trim levels, both RWD and AWD).
  • Heated steering wheel is not standard on the Mercedes E Class (is standard on ALL Genesis G80 AWD models).
  • Most people who buy a luxury car can afford to buy a house with an attached garage, which makes heated seats not as important. For most owners in cold climates, AWD is almost a necessity (unless one has a FWD vehicle), and the Genesis G80 AWD comes with front and rear heated seats and heated steering wheel as standard on all trim levels. To add heated rear seats and heated steering wheel to the RWD cars would have added at least $300 to the cost, and Hyundai made a calculated judgement that most people with the RWD model living in warmer climates would not want to pay $300 more for the car.

It goes back to the KDM versions sold in Korea. They had many more options, and much high price, than the USA Genesis models. Hyundai did not make specific Genesis models for every single market, but the USA market was big enough for them to chose their own options in a very competitive car market. Canada also got their own models, but similar to the USA models.

Back in 2009, the first year of the Genesis, Hyundai Motor America made the decision that the KDM suspension for the Genesis was way too soft, and they engineered their own suspension tuning at the Southern California test facility, only for the USA and Canadian markets. The Genesis has always been customized for the USA market, as compared to the KDM models. If the European market for Genesis gets big enough, they might make special trim levels for Europe, but that may be awhile.

Meh. Apples to oranges. I do find it silly that you can find rear seated heats on an Elantra or Sonata from years ago (maybe even the Accent now? lol) and yet find a 2G Genesis without them. Bean counters at work. I don't think most Genesis owners would scoff at an extra $300 in base price. Though obviously it wasn't a deal breaker for me...

I think this is the point of the OPs post.

The ones in the south where the weather is warm would scoff at that, especially if they parked their car in a garage. Those who live in cold weather would likely get a AWD, so they would get the heated rear seats.

Like I mentioned above, the more expensive Mercedes E Class does not even offer rear seat heaters on any trim level. People who own Mercedes E Class usually don't park them outside.

Last time I looked all cars in Florida had rear window defrosters and nobody seems to complain. Just odd that they base the inclusion of heated seats/steering wheel on AWD.

As for being garaged you are correct however it is highly unlikely they go to work and garage it there also. You are obviously speaking from a retired persons position. ;)

My daughters Elantra has them and so does a Kia Soul, heck they even get heated steering wheels just like the Honda I bought. In fact the Honda is actually better equipped than the Genesis minus the HUD! These are not big ticket items by any means when they appear on entry level cars as standard equipment. Just poor judgement on Hyundai's behalf IMHO.

Speaking of the Honda I bought, there are several items not available on the US yet are standard equipment in Canada. Why do we get ventilated front seats yet the US not? I am sure Floridians are quite ticked off. It's just as cold in Michigan yet they cannot get heated rear seats! Another thoughtless decision by an auto maker IMHO. Here is a quick list of them and most make no sense at all.

- Heated windshield wiper area
- Ventilated front seats
- Power folding mirrors
- Rear climate control panel
- Heated rear seats
- CD player (accessory for US models)
- Rain sensing wipers
- Dual note horns
- Turn signals in the mirrors
- Splash guards (accessory for US models)
