If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, I'm new here and I will get my 2009 Genesis in a weak.

My 2009 have a V8 4.6 blow engine and I only have some accessories so no engine, no oil pan, no power steering pump.

Can anyone tell me if a 2011 V8 4.6 engine will fit with no problem in my 2009 Genesis.

The dealer told me that the oil pan (upper and lower ) is not the same, steering pump and many other parts...

I have lot of 2009 engine accessories that I will take to fix the 2011 engine but I'm really worried about difference between 2009 and 2011 engine.

At Rock auto parts they told that oil pan is the same and power steering pump.

I don't want to live a nightmare when fixing up the 2011 engine in my 2009 Genesis.

I know missing parts or unmatching parts can cost me a lot and I don't want that.

Thank you very much

Your best bet might be to make friends with one of the dealer mechanics. That being said, I can't imagine that there are that many changes between 2009 and 2011. 2012 perhaps, which is when they had a mid-cycle refresh. But basically I do not know what I'm talking about :-), but I'm very curious about the answer. Hopefully someone can chime in.

As I recall the 2011 engine had some internal changes but otherwise it is the same 4.6 engine. The 2009 and 2011 also used the same transmission. I think the 2011 has an electric power steering pump, not sure about 2009.

I believe that 2009-2011 V8 had a hybrid electric-hydraulic steering system. Whether every single part in the steering mechanism was the same for those model years is something I don't know, but anyone who looks them up one of the online Hyundai parts sights can find out if the steering part numbers are the same.

There is a high likelihood that one can put a 2011 V8 engine in a 2009. There were no announced changes that I know of between 2009-2011. I don't think a 2012 5.0 GDI would work in a 2009, but in early 2012 they were still making the 4.6 V6.

OK, here is what I was able to find out:

  • Part number 101K13FU00 is for the engine on 2009-2010 Genesis V8 4.6 sedans up to build date 2/17/10
  • Part number 107K13FU00 is for the engine on 2010-2012 Genesis V8 4.6 sedans from build date 2/17/10

Build date is on a plaque on the drivers door jamb. I assume they are talking about Genesis build date, and not engine build date, but not 100% sure. Just because the engines are different, does not automatically mean the new engine cannot be used in a 2009, especially since it looks like they changed the engine in the middle of 2010 model year.

For other parts, you can look around on this site:

I'm just gunna bump this up to see what others think. All of my research tells me I should be fine going with the later engine from a mid 2010-2011 car. With the valve spring issue seeming to really only be a first-engine-model issue, i like my odds swapping in the later version as they clearly upgraded the valve springs(confirmed via part numbers on the valve springs being different as well). But if anyone else has experience or input, I'd love to see more input on this.

Engine swap shouldn't be an issue from 2011.
