  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2012 has developed an annoying fuel filling problem over the last 2 years in the form of tripping the fill nozzle every 3 - 10 seconds. A few pumps in California seem to work ok but, most don't . The Hyundai dealer says he's not aware of this problem but the mechanic at our gas station says Hyundai & the new Mercedes have this problem . Should this be reported to the CARB as a pollution defect?

Years ago there were some threads in this forum on that subject, but I don't recall what the resolution was.

Yes there were some issues that I think involved changing the filler neck section.

I don't see where this would be classified as a CARB or pollution defect issue, what may I ask is the reasoning behind this?

Probably to get it covered under the longer emissions warranty.

There may be a breather valve below the neck. I had a Nissan something and when they replaced the neck it did not help. They replaced this valve and presto, fast fills were back.

I'm having the same issue on my 2012 3.8 sedan. Dealer is looking at it... so far says not covered under longer emissions warranty.... stay tuned. Good news is I reported this years ago. It doesn't happen at every station but enough, and usually when I'm in the biggest hurry. Anyone pinpointed the issue so I can help the dealer figure it out?

"What I drive: 2G Genesis Sedan"

If you have a 2012, you have a 1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014).

I had the same issue for what seemed like forever. However I have the 12 5.0 R-spec. Swapped out the EVAP canister valve and no more problems. CONTROL VALVE - HYUNDAI (31430-3M000).

Side note the valve had become quite noisy, I could actually hear it clicking open and closed from inside the cabin when at a stoplight.

As Memphiskane mentioned, the Canister close valve is most likely the issue. I had the same problem with my 2012 3.8 and changed the CCV myself (did the fuel air filter at the same time since I was working in that area of the car) and it corrected the problem. This car seems to be VERY sensitive to fuel overfilling, so you have to be careful not to top off when near the top. When the gas filler nozzle clicks off, best to stop filling IMHO.
