  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone! New here :)

I'm about to buy a 2015 Genesis 5.0. But, I can't figure out why this genesis doesn't have the knob on the console. I see that most genesis's have the knob on the console with button around it and some don't. Does anyone know what package this car is missing that it doesn't have the knob?

Thanks!

For model year 2015, to get the DIS controller, the Ultimate Package is required.

Here the features of the 5.0 Ultimate Package over the 5.0 Base Package (not exactly the same as 3.8 Ultimate Package):

  • Heads-Up Display: Reduces driver distraction as key information items are projected on the windshield directly in the driver’s line of sight; can be turned on and off. Can display vehicle speed, turn-by-turn navigation, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Smart Cruise Control and traffic information
  • Premium Navigation System with 9.2-inch HD display and DIS (Driver Information System) controller
  • Lexicon® 17-speaker Discrete Logic 7 Surround Audio
  • Continuous Damping Control (CDC): When driving normally, the damping force is adjusted automatically to ensure superior ride comfort; damping force is increased for enhanced precision, stability and control; also offers Sport Mode that adjusts suspension, steering feel and transmission shift points
  • Power trunklid
  • CO2 Sensor Control System: detects elevated levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the cabin and automatically activates the ventilation system to bring in fresh air, keeping the driver alert and passengers comfortable

Thanks so much! So it doesn't sound like it's missing any major features. Do you know what the knob actually does and how components in the car are controlled without the knob?

I believe that most things on the non-DIS Nav are controlled by touch screen.

Great, thanks for your help!

Also, cars WITHOUT the knob can be upgraded to the Android Auto and Apple Car Play interfaces on the infotainment screen. Cars with the "Ultimate" package (and thus the knob) CAN NOT be upgraded. In short, the "premium" navigation system isn't. Unless "premium" means paying a premium for navigation map updates and traffic information through SiriusXM. Both are free if you have Google or Apple Maps. The maps in my 2015 are almost useless now, and the Navigation system is dumber than a loaf of bread (oh, let's turn off the highway here, drive 10 miles though nowhere, then let's get back on the highway - all while adding 15 minutes to the trip) and the voice recognition is 95% useless ("call John Smith" brings up a prompt to confirm that the Navigation system is driving to some obscure address 50 miles away - next time it will bring up a different address, but it won't call "John Smith" so far). Again, you can pay a "premium" to get BlueLink, which uses Google voice recognition technology and works well.

Reviewer consensus on the Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system was that the car drives better without it.

The heads-up display is awesome, I would miss that on any future vehicle.

Overall, the non Ultimate car is probably the better choice if you can live without the Heads-up display, a few more speakers on the radio and without the power trunk. I would only miss the heads-up display ...

I like the knob it makes doing a few things a breeze, I would hate to have to touch the screen for everything.

Thanks for your help! I ended up buying the genesis 5.0, even though it didn't have the knob. I also found out after I bought it that it doesn't have the heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, but that's not an option on the 5.0, so I can't complain. I wish there was way to add the factory Heads up Display though, but that'll take further research.

So far, I LOVE the car. Such a smooth ride and it's quick!

The CDC, DIS and the HUD are great upgrades. Firming up the suspension in Sport mode eliminates any body roll on the twisties.

Oh and a rear power sunshade was also included on the Ultimate.

Congrats on your new wheels! The 5.0 is smooth as silk and nice to have CarPlay and AA available.
