  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm looking to buy the platinum HPP for my 2015 genesis. I just want to protect myself against the failure of the high tech stuff the car has along with the sunroof. Has anyone actually used the HPP and how was it?

Thanks in advance.

There has been a lot of controversy over the years as to whether all the high tech stuff is covered by the Hyundai Extended Warranty. The warranty terms may include (depending on when it was issued) exclusions (or what appears to be exclusions) for "radar" related stuff, as is used in much of the high tech stuff. I would request something in writing directly from HMA (Hyundai Motor America), and read the fine print carefully.

Not Covered:
• Mechanical, Exterior, Interior
Brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard transmission clutch components, air bags, solar powered devices, hinges, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, trim, moldings, door handles, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, batteries, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, shock absorbers, audio, security or other systems not factory installed, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing, constant velocity joint boots, safety restraint systems, cellular phones, electronic transmitting devices (except for those specifically listed under silver, gold, or gold plus coverage), radar detectors, appliances, near object avoidance systems and all laser radar cruise control components, vinyl and convertible tops.

Another sticking point the the climate control module. As Mark said, it is covered under 3/36 coverage for 2015 and 5/60 for those after. It isn't covered. And neither is the power steering module. It is located in a precarious position at the bottom car almost directly behind the bumper. If it needs replacement, you can file a claim with your auto insurance company. SavageGeese discussed this in their Genesis video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFU-tnQXVIA) at 3:30.

That is the old contract. They have updated it. section 16 of the new contract says automatic cruise control and automatic collision avoidance are not covered if they are not factory installed.

Seems like the wording is ambiguous on purpose. Could you post the new wording exactly? The use of commas, and other punctuation is critical.

I posted the following last year. My Genesis is only 1.5 year and 8000 miles old, so it will be a while if I need to claim the extended warranty. I did ask my sales rep about this and he said the factory radar and sensors are all covered by the extended warranty. However, I will only know for sure when I actually put in a claim.

I just bought a platinum extended warranty with a 2016 new Genesis AWD. The language in item 15 under what are not covered is different from what is posted on the website and previous contracts posted by others. Item 15 reads

-----------Any of the installed items/systems not approved by the covered vehicle's manufacturer: Audio, security, in-vehicle communications and/or entertainment systems, safety restraint systems, cellular phones, electronic transmitting devices (except those specifically listed under gold coverage), radar detectors, appliances, near object avoidance systems and all laser radar cruise control components, vinyl and convertible tops, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing.

This is one whole sentence . All these items are listed behind a colon. I have to conclude that only the after market near object avoidance systems and smart cruise controls are not covered. All the radar and sensor based systems installed by the factory are included in the warranty. Anybody reads that differently?

It is like Hyundai realized that the old item 15 was worded wrongly and used better English in this new version.

The new contract says these items are excluded under platinum coverage, any of the following items/systems if they are not "factory installed" audio, security, .....other stuff, near object avoidance and radar cruise control. Makes it pretty clear that if it is factory installed it is covered.

also the new contract does not specifically exclude the climate control module or power steering module.

I purchased the the platinum HPP for my 2015 genesis with 30,000 miles on it and can confirm the new contract doesn't say it excludes the above stuff.
