If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Anyone recently had a transmission flush done? If so how much did it cost? I remember a few years ago people were spending hundreds on just the fluid alone. Just checking to see if the prices have dropped any. Its almost impossible to reach anyone at the southern states hyundai delearship near me to ask.

Price will depend on whether they just replace some of the fluid, or drop the pan and replace all of the fluid. Call the service department to get a quote, and to find out what that involves. Make sure you give them the your model year and engine. If the service department is too busy to respond to your phone call, you might have to visit in person (or they might not to tell you on the phone, since they want you to show up in person, so you will be more likely to have them do it, instead of shopping around for best price).

You can have your Hyundai serviced at any Hyundai dealer, even for warranty service.

don't do flush. Only Drain and replace fluid. At the second transmission service (approx 170,000 miles) I had the pan/filter replaced also. I recently replaced my 2011 4.6 afetr 7 years and over 212,000 miles. the transmission was still perfect.

I just spoke with my dealership and the tech said they replace all 11 quarts at 107 a quart. I think I will just do the drain and refill since my car only has 99000 miles on it.

That's one hell of a markup on the fluid. List price is only $76.90/qt. Call around, I'm sure you can buy the fluid at another dealer that'll sell at list.

Can you please clarify. chrev says 107 a quart. Can that be $107? Garnet Ty mentions $76.90/qt. At 11 quarts, that is an astronomical price either way. Amazon has SP-III for $9.64 and SP4-M for $23.68.

Maybe that includes labor?

It's always good to shop around at other dealers.

The problem is, his Genesis takes neither of those. It takes Shell 1375 ZF Lifeguard fluid, which does list at $76.90/qt. Dealers are welcome to charge whatever they want for it, but Hyundai suggests $76.90.

1375 ZF Lifeguard fluid is sold on eBay for about $24 per liter, with discounts for larger quantities. Obviously, will have to have someone other than a Hyundai dealer do the change.

My tech said the price was 107 a quart for the fluid. I was planning on doing the drain and fill method with suitable fluid but was hoping that the price had gone down some. The tech told me the usual claim of lifetime fluid but I don't buy it. I'm just waiting for the warranty to run out so I can use whatever brand of fluid I want.

It must meet the ZF specs. The proper ZF fluid can be purchased on line. You do know that it is a sealed transmission and a has the filter built into the transmission pan. To replace the filter the complete pan/filter has to be replaced (pan/filter is available from O'Reilly Auto Parts)

You don't have to use Hyundai brand fluid (especially since it is not a Hyundai transmission on the 2009-2011 V8), and you can use a brand that meets the specs of the ZF transmission. If you use fluid that doesn't meet ZF specs, you probably will buying a new transmission. ZF branded fluid is being sold for about $24 per liter on eBay (as I mentioned above).

While I am not suggesting going beyond 100K miles without a transmission fluid change, keep in mind that the ZF transmission (and other Genesis transmissions) uses a special synthetic fluid that lasts much longer than conventional fluids that most people are used to using in transmissions.

Thanks for the info Mark_888. From what I have read the Hyundai fluid is dyed a different color than other ZF fluids so if the trans goes kaboom before the 100k warranty is out I don't want to have to fight them over the fluid color mismatch.

I think a better solution is to just wait until 100K miles before changing the fluid, unless you are an Uber driver or something. The new synthetic fluids last much longer than conventional transmission fluids.

But don't ever put a synthetic transmission fluid in a transmission designed for convectional fluid, as the friction properties of the fluids are substantially different.

Hey, I hope its not too late. I just bought 9 quarts of ZF 6 fluid and an aftermarket pan/filter from Trans parts direct out of Cali. Dealer did want $75 per quart. My total was $ 309. for parts. DO NOT wait too long to do this. Lifetime fluid my a... I will keep changing it every 60k dont care what anyone says. 10 4.6 sedan 84k.

Ford uses this same transmission and they make a metal pan with a replaceable filter BTW, they call it Getrag tranny. Only reason I didn't went with this is that we dont have any space issues down there unlike Land Rover owners (they use this transmission as well)

+1 Good job, well said.

I can appreciate your zeal in fluid changing, but I'm curious. Have you ever had the oil tested?

in my 2011 4.6, I started getting some hard downshifts 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop (about a year ago). Decided that at about 85k it was time to address the "lifetime" fluid in the tranny. I have a local shop that would do a transmission flush and would let me supply the fluid. Went to California Transmission Supply (no affiliation) and got the required ZF LifeGuardFluid 6 (about $21/quart at the time of writing, less in bulk) for the ZR 6HP26 in our car. You can also get an entire kit that will replace the pan tray as well (which I didn't do). This was the best price I could find anywhere in the world. And I am a thrifty SOB.

So, I bought 15 qts, did an ounce for ounce replacement through the trans coolant line from the flush device and left the pan in place. Changed the shifting immediately and glad that I did it. It works as good as when I first bought it (used, 53k). If I had to choose again, I might change the pan tray as this would put in new magnets, filter and provide a drainage hole that the current one lacks. While I'm likely not as adamant as some on the thread, I agree that transmission fluid is NOT lifetime. Especially if you plan on keeping this as long as I do.

So, there are options. I chose this one because it would take out old fluid and put in new. Not entirely, but more completely than just dropping the pan. YMMV, but I would recommend doing it if you are going to keep the car. There are not a lot of downsides to doing it (other than the cost), but certainly better that spending $$$ on a new tranny. Good Luck!

What is in that stuff, Whale Oil? DId they go back to using whale oil for transmissions?

At the prices listed here for the fluid or fluid and kit, I'd spend the $30 beforehand to see if it did, in fact, need to be replaced. Wow.
