  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

recently had service work done at local Hyundai service department (they are complete con-artist morons!). Long story with brake issues... brake light remained on and they checked electrical components. Key fobs worked fine before they got the car, neither fob works now. have to manually lock/unlock car and key has to be inserted into fob "hole" for car to start. no buttons on fob work; not panic button, not trunk button, and of course not unlock/lock buttons. Changed batteries in fob and still not working.

Only two things I can think of are the problem... 1) Hyundai tech did something that would cause the receiver/fobs to lose programming or connection, 2) there is a blown fuse. ... would disconnecting the car battery cause the programming loss? The manual is pretty useless when it comes to locating a certain fuse... the manual indicates there is a fuse for an "RF Receiver"... I cannot locate this fuse... maybe my model Genesis does not have one? "RF Receiver makes the most sense to me when it comes to fob communication with the car.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you.

No.

Tell the dealer to look at the Body Control Module.

The dealer diagnosed it as a bad smart key module... still a little strange how they were working before the car was serviced and were not working when I got it back. I despise dealership service departments!!!!!!!

Good chance when tinkering with the first problem they zapped something else. Electronics can be touchy at times. As for dealership service departments, some are great, others, no so much. Independent shops vary too. With all the technology in cars now, without specialized training they can do more harm than good. Would the guy at the corner gas station you used for plugs and points years ago have found the module problem?

Check the positive battery connection. This was the first symptom I had before I started experiencing stalls and the car loosing electrical power. The clamp they use for the battery is a POS. I changed mine to a clamp that tightened without the ramp.

I also have the same problem on my 2011 genesis 3.8 sedan. Head unit flickering and dash clock resetting when car shut off as well. Car is now in dealer. They also suspect RF.
