  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long term maintenance costs for the Hyundai 15-16 generation and G80?

Mine is a 2016 Tech 3.8 RWD on lease. Periodic oil changes at $40 or so, plus $15 to rotate tires, lulled me into trusting my dealer. I was on the “severe” schedule due to L.A. stop and go traffic. (I think 5K is a more reasonable service interval.) Anyway, at 15,000 they hit me with a > $300 “package” that sent me through the roof. They even wanted to replace the wrong air filter (engine vs. cabin). I let them have it on Edmunds and they called to try to get me to delete the post. Nothing doing. I nearly divorced them, but this last time we were back to reasonable prices.

There was one big warranty repair early on. HMC treated me right. Great car, probably a keeper.

A few dealers try that nonsense. I was waiting in the service lounge when a customer was saying how much she liked the car but how expensive it was to maintain. She was going by the dealer's service menu, not the Hyundai manual. I explained it to her and it was the last time she followed their nonsense. I forget the list, but it was almost like dust the hubcaps, clean the inside of the tires and other money makers. I let them do the service as long as price was competitive but never followed other than the manual.

Were you using Top Tier 87 octane fuel when the throttle body "messed up"?

I've used Top Tier 87 for 30,000 miles with no problems. I've experimented with premium fuel on 3 road trips with no noticeable difference, including mileage. I would use premium only if driving at higher altitude.

While I haven't experimented with premium I have done a careful MPG comparison with mid-grade with first 2K segment using regular resulting in a 18.94 avg MPG followed by a 2K segment with Mid-grade giving a 19.66 avg MPG and then a follow on almost 4K segment back on regular giving the same 18.94 avg MPG as the first test segment. Outside of this minor .7MPG increase I did not notice any other benefit using Mid-grade over regular fuel.

Got a 2015 Ultime 3.8 last year and have had 0 problems so far. besides the regularly oil change and tire rotation, nothing else was ever needed to be done! Ride smooth as butter :)
I’m having my passenger brake light assembly replaced right now. I thought just a bulb was involved. No, the whole assembly to the time of 1038.00. I don’t have a maintenance pkge.
