  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I found and just joined this forum. Up until recently a Genesis wasn't on my radar but after going to a car show and seeing a G80 and G90 I was pretty impressed. Been doing a lot of research and it seems Genesis is one of the best bang for the buck cars out there in this class. I like the G80 but really interested in the new G70 Sport the G80 is a little bigger car then I need. Of course there are always concerns with first model year cars...

In my research I found I can pick up a new G80 3.3T Sport for about $9,000 off sticker which seems like a pretty good deal. Also the question is will dealers discount a new model like the G70 when it comes out in NA.

In the meantime I'll be monitoring this forum as I continue my research.

Discounts are given out based on supply vs demand. I would not expect much in the first few months.

The 3.3 Turbo and the 8-speed transmission on the G70 are probably the same as the G80 Sport and G90, so may not have first year problems. Can't speak about the 2.0 Turbo or the rest of the G70.

I would agree. It appears the G70 is carrying over most of the components/features used in the G80 today so I would expect fewer of the problems seen in "new" models.

I imagine is is essentially the same at the 2.0T used in the Sonata. Should be solid after 5 years use there. I liked in mine.

Agreed! Think of it as as a G80 Sport but with a nicer interior, much less weight (3600 lbs for RWD manual, 4000 lbs for 3.3T Sport versus 4600-4700 lbs for a G80 Sport AWD), much better handling, and much more speed! ;)

Someone could check the specs on the 2.0T on the new Kia Stinger with the 2.0T on the Sonata to verify that.

The Stinger has 10 more hp, 255 vs 245, but both have the same torque. Same 10:1 compression ratio. 16 valve DOHC. I can imagine some tuning differences but doubt they started with a new block.

I like that! Funny I was looking at the G70 spec vs the Honda Accord ( I drive today) and the G70 is actually 8" shorter in length over the accord.

The G70 is a compact luxury car so it will definitely be smaller than the Accord. :)

Accord keeps getting bigger. Also, length does not always determine the size of interior cabin space.

Actually believe it or not the new 2018 accord shrunk by 1" over last year but has more room inside. Which to your point is correct.

The Accord is considerably bigger than the G70 in interior space -- I have been inside the G70. It is definitely a compact luxury car, not a midsize family car like the Accord.

FWIW I paid sticker for a G80 sport as soon as they were available, and I feel I got great value for my dollar. I've still not seen a G70, but welcome either way!

I'm kind of torn between the Sport G70 and a Sport G80, I'm seeing discounts for the G80 Sport model up to $8,000. Don't know if any discounts will be had on the G70 being new.

Sticker is $58,770 plus doc fee
Price is $51,999 plus doc fee (no taxes)
(If I was a Uber driver another $1,000) :D

From my understanding, still the same Theta block that is also used by Mitsu for the 4B11T engine found in the Evo.

Wonder if Hyundai will ever upgrade the G70's 2.0T to the one found in the i30N (271HP and one of the best sounding 4-bangers around)?
