  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone experienced a battery replacement? If so, how old was the battery, how much did you pay and where did you get it replaced?

Personally, I'd only get a replacement at the dealer. Have AAA get you jump started and then drive to the dealer. I do know that if the car is not hooked up to a charger while the old battery is disconnected and removed, you will lose all the car and AV's settings. That's a lot of settings.

There are plenty of threads on this subject already. The replacement battery is an AGM H9. Many people have got new batteries at AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, etc and done it themselves.

If you purchase online for in-store pickup at Advance Auto, this weekend (through March 25) you can get a 20% discount, and they may install it for you (you can call ahead and ask).

I know there are some videos on YouTube for 1G Genesis, but not sure about 2G, but probably the same.

Some AV settings may be lost with a DIY battery change, but the only real complaints I have heard was the 2009 in California only, due to California emission testing data that was lost. Problem was fixed by Hyundai in 2010. It's not like the problems with some cars (like BMW) where the car won't start if there is a power loss during battery change (due to security system).

Done by a good battery shop, settings are not lost. They plug in a small battery to keep power while swapping out the batteries. You can even buy the tool for $12 from Amazon. Dealer may be a good option, but check prices.

Stealership is a RIP OFF. They want $327 to replace it.

It looks like Advance Auto is the way to go. I was quoted $199 without the online coupon.

Just did my dads battery in his 745i over the weekend it was 168 for a Group 49 which is a big battery.

Is that installed? When I had a LeSabre the battery was under the back seat so they would not install it. Things may have changed though.

Advance Auto Parts will install a battery in the trunk for free with purchase. However, when I bought a battery at Advance Auto with free installation, after they looked at the actual connections to the battery, they were worried it had some complicated electronic devices on it that would render the car dead once the old battery was disconnected, similar to their experience in installing BMW batteries. So they declined to install it. But knowing that there was no real issues with disconnecting the old battery on a Genesis, I took it home and installed it myself with no problems.

Dumb questions here. Are these battery replacements you guys are talking about for the front or rear battery? Is the trunk battery ever in need of replacement since the front does most of the work (I think)?

There is only one battery, and it is in the trunk (passenger side, to the right of the spare tire). There are a set of terminals in the engine bay for convenience that can be used to jump the car, but they are connected to the battery in the trunk.

I am wondering if that $199 battery quote was for the Gold. Gold is a wet cell batter, not an AGM. I'd get online and find the highest percentage off coupon for Advance Auto, pop that code in at check out on a Platinum AGM battery. A wet cell will WORK, but will not work as well or for as long in a car with such high electrical demand, especially if you're in a cold climate.

As for what Advance will and will not do, if you open up your spare tire cover, they have full access to the battery, and you should be able to let them know it's not over the top like BMW and a simple plug in battery saver to save your presets will be fine, they should replace it. They will not replace batteries that require taking apart interior items such as the Buick mentioned above with the battery under the seat, but there should be no problem with a trunk mount.

The $192 (at Advance stores near me) is for the Platinum H9, which is AGM. You are correct that the Gold is a flooded cell, but is a less expensive, although a very good battery.

Prices may vary depending on location. They are currently offering 15% off through March 28, although they seem to have frequent internet sales. You can buy online for in-store pickup and they will still install it for free.

oh yeah, brain fart on my part. I JUST bought one from there, so you'd think I'd remember they were close to $200. After my Speed Perks and discount code, I think I was out the door for $130 on my Platinum.

Yup, assistance is free.

Unfortunately, I've never had a battery go so fast. In my 40 years of driving and dozens of cars, you always had a warning....slow crank; solenoid sound, etc. Unfortunately, my wife called me while out shopping and complained about the steering being difficult. Then...she called 15 minutes later and said she was lucky she was able to steer it to a open parking space.

So....sluggish steering is a hint that it's going (and extremely dangerous in my opinion as the car's steering is 'sluggish' and heavy to begin with. Unfortunately, we had to have it towed to a dealer. The two truck sent by Hyundai couldn't even jump start the car. Bend over.

So...I'd like to ask people...how do you know it's going? Do you have to buy a battery tester and check it every couple weeks?

Take it by any auto parts store. They have battery testers that you can borrow. But if you'd prefer to keep something in the car, check on Amazon. There are several good testers below $25.

I see some guys saying that an H8 is the correct battery and some saying H9- is the difference pertaining to six cylinder or eight cylinder application?

I think it depends on the model year. At some point they switched to H9, although it may be that is only for the V8 (not sure). In any case, you should be able to find the correct size at the Advance Auto Parts, or AutoZone websites, even if you don't purchase there.

I can at least confirm that an 09 4.6 takes the H9. That's all I got for ya. lol
