If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 Announcementfor US tomorrow?

I really wish they would have painted the roof black

So, if the narration to the video is o be believed, there's no nominal power increase for the US-spec car. Still described as 365HP. That's the same as Stinger and Korean G70. Performance should be a little better than the Stinger by virtue of the weight savings associated with the G70 being a bit smaller. It'll be interesting when a few car mags have actually tested the G70 to see how well it performs and how closely the figures from different testers cluster.

Suspension for both US and Canadian versions has been described as more aggressive than the Korean spec, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Th rear set room in the video looked really tight, especially considering that the reviewer said he was 5"7". When all the way back (presumably) the passenger seat early touched the cuhion of the seat behind it. And I guess there's little roof for feet under the front seats, even when leg room is adequate. So, this really is pretty much a "personal car," suitable for one or two passengers with room in the back for kids or a small adult going only a short distance. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Here's another review. Kind of mixed. Again, the tight rear seat emerges as a concern. Also, not much love for the quilted leather interior.

The tight rear seat has been brought up many times with the Korean reviews last year. One of the complaints was the feet about not having much room. I also love the quilted leather interior. It's going to be a tough market to compete in but I really believe they built a really nice car overall.

For my purposes, the tight rear seating is a non-issue.

So if it's not a practical four-seater, why not eliminate the rear doors and call it a coupe? I would sacrifice a hit on my G80 lease for that!

After all, there's already an intermediate sized sport sedan. Stop micro-managing that class, and bring out the SUV and Coupe. Sadly, there's no apparent interest in a roadster. I'm an "old" man; guess I'll have to go back to "old"cars to get a genuine pleasurable set of wheels. Or trade my entire stable in for a Jag F-Type.

Its a compact car, not intermediate.

I'm 5'11" and I have fairly long legs; I sit pretty far back. When I sit in the back seat with the driver's seat at my settings I have about 3" of knee room and 3" of headroom although you are correct in foot space being a little tight.

I would take even less rear leg room if it meant i could have 2 doors and a total length of 180 inches i would rather a smaller car for sure

It's not just my observation based on the video.

From the Cars.com review:

The biggest issue with the G70 is the accommodations for backseat passengers — in this regard comparisons to the Alfa Romeo Giulia are apt, as neither has sufficient leg or toe room for real-size adult humans. I could not sit in the backseat if I adjusted the front seat for my normal driving position. It's that tight; it's almost more of a 2+2 than a five-passenger compact sedan.

I agree with others who've said it isn't that big a deal for them. I really view this as a personal car, not something to haul a lot of folks around in. But given the popularity of SUVs and people's acclimation to cars that hold four or five people comfortably, this may be an issue for some people.

I also agree that a 4-seat coupe or true 2-door 2+2 configuration would have been appealing. Actually, I'd have loved a 2+2 hatchback, with no real aspiration to seating adults in the rear, built on this wheelbase rather than the Stinger's. It also would have saved some additional weight. Given the use of the hatchback on the Stinger, I'm surprised this idea never crossed their minds -- or maybe it did and got rejected for some reason. Or maybe we'll see it down the road. I would suspect that building such a car on this platform wouldn't be all that difficult if you relegate the rear area to not really fitting two additional passengers. Maybe there are too few people to whom that configuration would appeal. I could understand that, actually. It's something I'd find appealing but many people might not. Even a vestigial rear compartment that can hold smaller folks seems to be a plus in this segment.

I'm pitching the idea of a road trip to the West Coast in a G70 to my wife. I don't think she sounds too impressed since the car will definitely be tight on space for stuff but the twisties will be amazing with the G70. Might have to suck it up and go G80 Sport or G90.

Maybe they'll sell a few G70's, but where, oh where, are the long-overdue Genesis SUV's?

2020, sadly. They were supposed to be coming in 2019 but they are really taking the time to make the GV80 a legit German SUV killer. It will be on the new G80 platform. As much as I love the Genesis sedan lineup, big sedans are not big sellers in Canada (G70 may be different as compact cars in general are big here) so the SUV can't come soon enough.

While it seems (and is) painfully long, I'd rather see it done right rather than rush something to market just to have an SUV. I'm sure the dealers will want it soon too.

Think this will be a issue and something that can have a significant impact on sales.

A major reason why the Cadillac ATS is poor sales performer (compared to the 1G and 2G CTS) is due to its cramped interior space; same thing goes for the XE and Giulia.

A major reason why the Infiniti G/Q50 has regularly outsold the IS (aside from aggressive lease deals) is that it offers more passenger room than the rest of the segment; something that the G80 does w/ respect to its segment.

The G70 has about the same WB as the F30 3 Series; problem is, the new G20 3 Series is going to be a bit roomier than the F30.

So already, the G70 will be outclassed by both the new 3 Series and Audi A4.

Dimension-wise, the G70 is almost identical to the W205 C Class; problem is, the W205 is also nearing the end of its life-cycle and its replacement should grow in size.

Cadillac will be replacing the ATS with the CT5 - which will be close to the size of the 2G CTS (so, like the Q50, will be a tweener in size).

While I think it was smart for Genesis and Kia not to directly compete w/ each other (the Stinger being a decent bit longer and having the fastback bodystyle), at the same time, think Genesis (like Cadillac w/ the ATS) has been too overly preoccupied w/ making the G70 a handling machine where they are in danger of missing the boat when it comes to the majority of buyers in this market.

Figured as much; not surprised as they have to get the most important part right - the chassis.

Me too, and that includes the sheetmetal (don't exactly care for the GV80 concept).

PMC - if you're really Jonesing for a crossover, why not look at the new Santa Fe?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_BBXN-QZ38

Has a near premium interior and the sheetmetal looks classier than such luxury crossovers like the RX, MDX, XT5 and MKX - and since you don't care about whether it's on a FWD or RWD platform, should meet your needs.

According to Genesis Corporate the actual production GV80 looks much better than the concept. I am hoping that is the case!

Man, another tepid review of the G70.

http://en.brinkwire.com/234118/nyias-genesis-turns-up-the-heat-with-its-all-new-g70-should-the-3-series-a4-c-class-rest-easy-headlines/

Seems like most of the reviews stemming from the auto show either just repeat Genesis promotional literature or are modest in their praise.

Following an ambiguous headline:

Genesis Turns Up The HEAT With Its All-new G70 — Should The 3-Series/A4/C-Class Rest Easy?

They go no to say:

Although we’re sure there’s going to be a lot of noise about the surprise halo car concept it brought to the 2018 New York Auto Show, we were a bit more concerned with the all-new production vehicle it displayed. [That would be the G70.]

That’s because we’re a bit mixed over it.

And so the new concept does seem to have stolen a lot of the limelight. Not sure what Genesis was thinking.

What website is that?

Also, that website doesn't explain why they are mixed about it. What a terrible article.

Well, that's good to hear (the GV80 concept looks unfinished and the new grille design looks awkward/ungainly).

So, is the indication you're getting from corporate that design language going forward for the sedans will follow the GV80 concept (and presumably the Essentia) and not the New York concept?
(Guess they can also take elements from both.)

Any idea as to the planned entry-level coupe?

I'm thinking they'll make it a distinct design rather than simply making it a 2-door version of the G70 (or the next G70).

Hoping that they use the excellent HND-9 concept as the template, but don't think that's going to happen.

So I went to the New York Auto Show yesterday and the first booth I went to was Genesis. Essentia concept looks really cool in person! G70 looks aggressive and for a smaller car, the rear leg room is not bad at all. They had a Genesis Owner's lounge with water, chocolates, cookies and Wi-Fi. Nice move from Genesis. Saw Kia K900, doesn't compare to G90 looks wise. There was a lot of buzz around Genesis booth, I would say Essentia reveal was a good move as it helped get the crowd to the cars.
