  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

NICe...Thanks

VS 460 -- is that for real?

A nice attempt - I would really like to see just a tad of originality in the design and feature set rather than copying/pasting Lexus LS.

I'm sure priced appropriately, many will flock to it (A Romex / Rolex kind of thing) - I'd rather pay more and get the real deal, personally.

beautiful car, but.... the center stack vents look like someone just grabbed then out of the parts bin and rotated 90 degrees....

Yes, that's for real. FWIW, the Genesis sedan is known as the BH380 in Korea (they don't get the V8 otherwise they'd also have a BH460).

As for the Lexus comparison, the rear does very closely resemble the LS (the exhaust tips being the single biggest ripoff), but the rest doesn't look to LS like to me. Like the Genesis, it's a hodge-podge of various luxury car styling elements. Building a car like this is a big enough risk, they can't risk being to adventurous/different w/ the styling....yet. They want it to look expensive and fit in w/ it's competitors, which it does.

FWIW, there are a fair bit of styling elements shared by lesser Hyundais. I see quite a bit of Genesis in the hood and the way the bumper and fenders meet, and the swoopy character line along the side reminds me of the Elantra, Azera & Veracruz. And that windowline? It looks very much like the Veracruz and Azera.

...but could you AFFORD the real thing? If so, than yes - you'd probably only purchase the real thing. If not, which is a very large percentage of the population, you'd seriously be happy with a car like the Equus.

Technically, I could afford it - many could. Though, I could think of better things to spend $70k+ on.

To be clear, I'm not attacking the attractiveness of the Equus. I've just never been a "knockoff" kind of guy and unfortunately, that's how I see the Equus. I'm into classic cars as well - I don't appreciate the SS "clones" - always found it irritating when someone would take an RS and put SS badging and features on it. Just a preference, I suppose.

Hyundai is on the right track, I think... they've just done themselves a disservice by not putting more resources into an original design. Or maybe not... the knockoff market is booming afterall. :)

I like this a lot...and Kudos for the sharp, detailed pictures. I can't get over the hood/trunk/interior emblems though. I think they look a little gaudy and like the Genesis wing badges much better. I guess the new badging is somewhat cultural to the Korean market and they think it looks sharp. For the US market I'm not so sure they are going to fly though. To tell the truth, the badges look like an Asian knock-off and would be much better served by using the K.I.S.S principle and tone it down a tad. Love the car, hate the emblems.

A lot of people feel the way you do.. So it's not like your opinion is off-base.. It's not. Though keep in mind that they're talking about the Equus topping out at under $60k.. So whether it's a knock-off of something more expensive or just a really damn good deal on a vehicle that has so, so much to offer - it's very impressive...

Fair enough, Sal - it indeed looks impressive. Time will tell if Hyundai is ready to push a $60k car. Naturally, I hope it works out for them.

If you check out edmonds.com; there is an article on the Equus. The picks are not of a Korean market car, but of a model closer to the US version. Including 3 across rear seatting.

i lol everytime hyundai makes something..its a "knockoff". companies that make "knockoff" products generally dont generate the revenue that hyundai does. theres not much originality of any brand out there. lexus was one of the biggest "knockoff" artists if you will and are still from other companies. this just funny to me. by the way, i think the car looks fabolous, i hope those are 20in. wheels.

Just noticed the dash is KM, so not a US content model, Any idea what might be dropped/added for the US Spec model?

Does anyone else wish they would have made the area around the climate controls/clock/cd player glossy piano black instead of cheap matte black plastic? I think it would look more elegant and tie in nicely with the high-gloss black finish used on the steering wheel, DIS controller, gear shifter and 2 large climate control knobs.

It just looks out of place to me.....like it came from a $25-30k car and not a $50k car.

I like the look of gloss black, but the actual result is usually disappointing: dust, scratch, and fingerprint magnet. :(

Looks to be the same design philosophy and parts from other models. Looks very similar to the Sonata vent layout. Probably the same reason that Cadillacs suffered from the ugly plastic button syndrome shared with all other GM cars.
