  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So because the G70 is so far only selling in Canada, it seems (from what I have been told by many shops) that there is no pre-cut film options yet. I have had some shops saying they can free hand although that makes me nervous.

Just wondering if anyone has had paint protection film applied yet and if they free handed it, how did it turn out?

It would be really good if someone in Edmonton has done this. :)

I just got my G70 back from Tint Studio here in Edmonton

Not sure about precut or not but it looks invisible except when i get a bit of dirt on the hood you can see (if you are looking for it) it a bit as i only did half hood but you can see this on all applications.

I also did all the front facia and cant see anything and they were quick and the cheapest i spoke with. They also wraped my mirrors in vinyl and did a side skirt decal really cheap and the work looks great.... also got windows tinted

My demos all have hand-cut Xpel film protection and it looks great. There are several people on this forum that also have film protection with great results.

Not a direct answer to your question, but I suspect with the recent flip-flop on US standalone dealers (which I suspect is directly caused by less-than-optimal sales across both the Hyundai and Genesis lines), the G70 will be available sooner rather than later (I'm still holding to my earlier June guess, which I basically pulled out of a hat). If that assumption turns out to be the case, you could be looking at July or August for pre-cut paint-protection film, which I realize is a pretty significant time after purchase if you care about this kind of thing (for my next car, I'm going to try and arrange for Xpel ultimate on the front-end, rear bumper, and front mirrors before I leave the dealership). On my Genesis, it only took 800 miles before it had nicks in the front bumper.

I will check them out. Thanks. I want tint as well but waiting to decide on what to do with film.

Where was the work done? I didn't look closely at it when I had the car. Is this DJ? I 'borrowed' you white G70 twice. :)

;) This is. How are you?

It was done in house by my Xpel installer.

JR's Detailing on the west end is really good - I've had work done there on a previous car. He's more expensive than Tint Studio, but he's got a lot of experience and a good crew. He uses Xpel and can do ceramic coating as well.

I had my tint and xpel done at JR's.
I got the entire hood and front end done and am happy with the results.
They measured my car up and used a plotter to cut out the template they created so probably a little better then just doing it all by hand.
This is what he did for me:

Our XPEL Complete packages
  • Full hood
  • Complete fenders
  • Front bumper
  • Mirrors
  • Headlights/fog lights
  • Roof and a-pillar
  • Luggage area and front door sills
  • Rocker Panels
  • $1395
What part of the city are you in? You could take a look at mine if you'd like

Live in the south, work in Acheson.

Tint Studio or JR's are decent locations for me to use. I wouldn't mind seeing your car or @Buckdes to see how they turned out.

I must be blind as I can't see how to PM on this site, but send me a message (if possible..) if a certain time or place works.

Not sure how to PM either but if you wanted to meet up to check out the car somewhere in Spruce sometime over the next week I would be down for that

Spruce is a bit far for me. I work on the south side and live out in Sherwood Park

Do you work in Spruce? I head in there for lunch at least once a week so we could meet then.

Sure let me know which day works for you

@Buckdes - I am heading to Mud Sweat and Gears in Spruce at lunch today and will grab a bite to eat somewhere as well. You going to be around?

@WhoIsHomer - I will be at Costco in Sherwood Park this evening, would like to see your car as well as I was considering full hood and fenders.

Anyone - there must be a way to PM on this site?!? I see an envelope in the top right but it doesn't do anything. It just says "conversations" but there doesn't seem to be a way to start one. Is this a new user issue?

@Edmguy just point your cursor next to whoever you wanna start a conversation with and you will see a prompt. See attached image.

Edmonton G70 meet???

Wait until mine arrives before a meet gets set up, please!

I got bird poop on my Xpel yesterday (former Edmonton G80 sport demo) and I cleaned it off with a gas station window washer (foam part not squeegee) before taking it through a car wash. I noticed it scratched it quite noticeably as a result of this and it's quite upsetting that it's this fragile. Treat it well if you go with Xpel.
