  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm planning on doing a somewhat unique custom exhaust in the near future, so I threw together a stock clip for comparison. The exhaust is so quiet, you can barely hear it at times. It's just enough to let you know there's a potentially mean sounding V8 under the hood. Hope to fix that soon. ;)

In either case, here you go!

lol I have a 5.0 Genesis and yet I still check out your videos. Silly I know. When I watch though, I think, "Yep, that's what Sophie (my Genesis) sounds like :-)!"

Hah, yeah, I do the same thing. Different perspective maybe? It'll be more interesting with some exhaust mods.

I thought about doing an exhaust cut-out mod (the only exhaust mod I would consider for the Genesis), but I'm coming up on 70K miles now and don't plan on spending any more money on her for the next couple of years until the next one comes available.

Yeah, an electric cut-out is my last option. I just prefer something quieter than a cut-out, but louder than stock. All the time.

70k... planning on a new Genesis soon? Although I guess if you've lived with stock for that long, not a big deal. I just came from a much louder (and better sounding) stock exhaust system on my old truck. So the G80 is noticeably quieter.

I have briefly considered a G90 but I want to wait for the next gen for both G80/G90 before I decide. Besides, my car is in fantastic shape and honestly I am still in love with her. I think the next gen platforms will enjoy the full influence of Albert Biermann and Fayez Abdul Rahman, so I expect them to, in no uncertain terms, be appreciable improvements over the already excellent current models. It's just going to take patience on my part (something I didn't exhibit when I went from my 2010 to my 2012 only to get my 2015 3 years later). Hopefully they've gone away from Harmon Kardon for the vehicle entertainment system by then as well.

With that track record, you should be buying a new G80/90 any day now. Hah. I'm hoping to keep this one for at least 5+ years. At which point I'd be looking at a completely new model as well. One that has been out long enough to have already worked out most "new model" bugs/issues.

The Lexicon/Harmon system is actually pretty good on mine... once I added a sub. Which you really shouldn't have to do. We shall see!

I agree about the sound of the HK system; I too added subs and it sounds pretty good now. But historically, going back to the 1st gen, there have been a healthy set of problems with Lexicon head-units reported on this site. Their BT has been especially dodgy. Even on my 2015, my showroom-floor kept Genesis BT did not work when I took delivery; I had to get another head-unit (and I had to prove to the service writer that it was in fact my specific head-unit on my car by pairing my phone on another model they had on the lot). Now even though it mostly works, there are times when it craps the bed and times that I've had to completely reboot my phone and re-start my car to get it to function properly. This is with my current iPhone 6 as well as my (admittedly older) Android based Nexus 6.

If that's not enough, I kinda blame them for the lack of Android Auto/Apple CarPlay on the Ultimate model (something that was fixed with 2018). And as good as my system with subs sounds, it sounded better with past Lexicon systems. All-in-all, I feel like they've dropped the ball a bit too many times and I hope Genesis goes in another direction for 2020.

That's some of those "early bugs" I try to avoid by buying a model further into it's life-cycle. I could have saved thousands by getting a left-over 2017. But wanted that updated stereo in the Ultimate and other minor improvements with the 2018. Fortunately I haven't had any Bluetooth or functionality issues with the stereo in multiple 2018 G80's I test drove, including mine. Works quite well with my S8+, along with Android Auto.

But I hear ya. Those problems shouldn't have taken that long to resolve. In Hyundai/Genesis defense, they're not alone in struggling to keep up with new and reliable technology.

I haven't had any issues with the Lexicon system in my G80 Sport. In fact, I think it sounds great and functions very well. Ok, I do have one minor issue I guess. I can't seem to save addresses that I download or get via Google to the address book. The save option is disabled. However, that is a very minor annoyance.
