  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is a 2015 Genesis G80 5.0 possible?

I'll say this: I paid almost half of what 2017-2018 owners of G80's paid for my '15. I'm fine with having a Genesis because of the savings. I don't think I'll ever buy a new car simply because of the depreciation. Now, if it's a collector car and will appreciate, that's a different story. I would imagine I won't be there financially for a bit so I'll take a 50% savings with, almost, the same new car limited warranty.

What happens if a dealer sells a real 2017-18 G80 and calls it a Genesis G80, but Hyundai Finance (and the DMV) call it a Hyundai Genesis G80? Is that fraud?
I know you're not really asking - but for others, I really don't think it's an issue. If I bought a brand new Mercedes-Benz S550 and it was somehow called Floppy Weiner on the title, it wouldn't change anything for me. I love the car inside and out and while I'm cruising in that blissfully quiet, soft-riding, comfortable Floppy Weiner, I'm laughing at everyone else around me...

ok,, back to the question by me, the guy who posted it. Just to clear it up. It was never advertised as a 2015 G80. It was advertised from a ford dealership as a 2015 Genesis. I noticed the G80 badge on the trunk it the pictures that were posted. Since the car description was matching what I'm looking for. ( A 2015 Geneses, black on black) I emailed them for clarification. Before I posted the question the response I got back from the dealership was maybe it was an earlier addition of theG80. Once you guys answered my question about how there would were not 2015 G80's that were in production anywhere. I emailed the dealership again and at that time they sent me the original picture of the window sticker. It was $51,500 so that told me the pricing was in the right range of the 2015s. Today I received another email from the dealership and they said had confirmed that it could not possible be a G80 and it must have been tagged by a previous owner.

I asked on this forum before about the 3.8 vs the 5.0. I have a 2012 4.6 now. I live in PA. so yup we get snow. Only the 2015 3.8 has all wheel drive. Does anyone have some strong opinions on what I should get between a 2015 3.8 or 5.0? I have gotten opinions on here but would like more if possible. There is an obstacle with actual comparison. I can find 3.8's within 25 miles. I'd have to travel 186 miles to see a 2015 5.0 and it wouldn't be the color I'd like. I guess that brings up another question that may be important. What are the body changes between the 2015 and the 2018's. Are they really significant. If the 2015 look like the 2018's that would help me see what I'd like to get into. Thanks

At least the dealer was not being deceptive intentionally.
The body differences between the 15 & 18 are minimal. The AWD will have headlight washers. The front bumper had a couple of minre changes and LED DRLs instead of the amber bulb. Interior changes are minor too.

Sure the 5.0 is faster. I'd like to have the extra speed once in a while, but could not justify the cost to get up to speed a couple of seconds faster once a month or so. The 3.8 is very adequate. I don't know where or how you drive so that is a factor only you can decide. There were some test done between the cars. Both had trained and experienced drivers, both cars used 87 octane, tests was done side by side so weather differences were not a factor.

Test one was 8 AM traffic at the GW Bridge entering New York. . From the NJ Turnpike exit, both cars took 86 minutes. Next, test Two. On Rt 84, a dual lane highway, with a truck passing in the left lane doing 50 in a 55 zone, the 5.0 was able to pass the 3.8 and arrive at the next exit 4 seconds faster, a clear winner. At Burger King, the 5.0 was in a long line at the drive through while the 3.8 driver went inside for his Whopper and was out just ahead of his competitor.

Drive the 3.8. You may find it does everything you need and have AWD for the snow.

FYI I just returned my leased 2015 Genesis Ultimate 3.8. It was leased in 04/2015 and was built in 07/2014 and was badged in every aspect as a Genesis. Trunk, hood, steering wheel, door sills, etc. and even the side mirror puddle lamps displayed Genesis.

It usually takes 1-3 months from production to get from Korean factory to US port of entry, prepped by the importer, and sent to dealers. So even if it was 3 months that would be about October 2014. That means it was awhile before you leased it in April 2015. How many miles on the car when it was leased?

The majority of owners did make the badging changes from the Hyundai logo to the wings (going all the way back to 2009), and even some dealers got into the act. But not sure how many dealers would have replaced the airbag. There have been a number of owners who have replaced the airbag and all the other stuff.

I may be wrong, but the puddle lamps may have shown Genesis from the factory in 2015.

The vehicle had 82 miles and no modifications by the dealer or the port of entry per the dealer.

My memory failed me. My recollection now is that the only Hyundai logo on the 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan was on the trunk, and all the others were wings from the factory (including airbag).

Someone must of changed the flying H on the trunk to the wings. Just because a salesman told you no, doesn't mean it's true, and the average auto salesman probably doesn't even stay at a dealership for 3 years. Even if he was there, he would have no way of knowing if someone changed the logo on the trunk back in 2014 or early 2015. Removing the flying H and replacing it with the wings is relatively easy, and described in many threads in this forum. Many dealers did it to their inventory. But I am pretty sure that it was not done by HMA at port of entry.

You are correct, the Hyundai Genesis from the factory in 2015 did indeed have Power folding outside mirrors with Genesis logo puddle lamps. Also yes the trunk did originally have the H.
