  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

with gasoline prices rising above $3.00 in Houston, what grade of gas do I really need in my 2015 3.8 Genesis and my wife's 2017 Tuscan? Thanks

Factoring in US to CAD we're paying roughly $6.30/gallon in the Toronto area...I'd say enjoy your cheap cheap gas! But you can get away with 87 octane

Regular is fine, but you should stick to top-tier gas stations as the gas at those stations has the required additives for the GDI engines.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

+1

You need gas with octane level of 87 or above.

Prices creeping up near $4.00/gallon here in NorCal. (Premium). I'd love to see $3 again... ;)

what is "top tiered" gas? Mobil, Exxon, Shell? Anyone else? Valero??

Try googling Top Tier Gas to see what it is about and a list of retailers who qualify.

I pulled up the list. A lot of gasoline companies in Houston. However Shell must think they have liquid gold. Most expensive around here.

Being on the Top Tier list doesn't mean all those gasolines are the same. It just means that they meet the minimum standard of detergents needed to be on the list.

Also, Shell runs a lot of promotions where members can get $0.10 per gallon reduction in price, so they probably just jack up the price to account for that.

Around here (in CT) it is close to the other major brands. It is possible to save if you use a Shell charge. One of our supermarkets has a "fuel rewards" program so I can usually save 20 to 30 cents a gallon. Right nos it is about $3.059

It's interesting to hear Americans complain about gas prices. The price this weekend in Canada will hit the equivalent of about $4.07 US per US gallon. Of course, we have "free" healthcare.

I don't. I just checked GasBuddy website and my local Costco has premium for $3.29 per gallon.

Mark, What do they call a graduating doctor at the bottom of his class?? "Doctor" I guess it is okay to use a top tier that may not have as much additives as another company but still on the list. They didn't print them in a particular order other than alphabetically.

The point is that the quality of gasoline in the USA (especially with regard to engine detergents) was much worse before the Top Tier program than it is today. So it has served a very useful purpose, even if it doesn't tell us which is the best.

Most people inside the industry would probably say that Chevron is best quality, and many automakers use it for their EPA mileage and pollution tests.

Interestingly, BP only obtained the Top Tier designation "relatively" recently (a while ago, but way after Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil).
