  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long story short.... I was almost the victim of a possible car jacking due to an elaborate scheme that a group of thieves with ambush tactics had set up.

My question... If I'm car jacked, my proximity key fob will be in my pocket as it's always in my pocket when I'm driving. As they drive away with my Genesis, it won't shut down or immobilize because the prox fob is out of range right?

My understanding of these prox fobs is that in the event of a car jacking, the car will continue to run until they shut it off themselves, at which point the car will not start back up because the fob is no where near the car.

Is that right?

Correct, it is one ride only, though it can be a nasty one. Only resource you have (at least in the US) is for the police to contact BlueLink and they can slow it and shut it down. Would be niceif out of range also meant a maximum of 5 or 10 mph.

I see. Thanks for the reply. Appreciated.

I have first hand lnowledge that it works. I was driving to a dealership, with the wife, to pick up our other car. Wife drove off with the only key fob with us in my pocket. When she stopped to pick up something, turned the car off, and you guessed it, car wouldn't restart. Luckily she wasn't far from where she dropped me off. We still haven't determined whose fault it was. Me for not giving the FOB or her for not asking. My defense, thought she had the other FOB in her purse. Her defense, I'm an idiot for not giving her the FOB.

Scares me a little once in a while. When I take my wife to the medical center I use the valet parking. One of these days I'm going to drive off and the valet will still have the fob in his jacket. She rarely carries the other one.
