  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Our second gens even say it's a Genesis...

see my above post.. no manufacturer is without fault. I've had BMWs with squeaks, Audi's with rattles, and MBZ with broken interior parts.

Yea, like I said I might just be so picky that a perfect car probably doesn't exist to me. Something will always seem to bug me like that damn rattle under my dash.

Well, since you asked so nicely: I'm not enamored with the currenet G80/G90 - too big and the driving dynamics are markedly un-sporty. So I'm waiting to test drive a G70 to see if I like that - if you can magically arrange that now, then... otherwise, I just have to wait until Genesis actually gets them to market here in the the USA like everyone else.

And - wow, you are really sensitive about owning a Hyundai aren't you? I see you did put the wings on to try to hide that fact? Sorry, but I don't personally buy any other explanation for why folks would replace the Hyundai logo with the wings - regardless of how they might try to spin it. Rebadging a 15/16 Genesis as a G80 as some did is even more silly and an attempt to further hide what they really own, in my opinion. I don't get why some folks feel the need as they are nice cars and very good values on their own merit. But, as I said, to each his own - do what makes you happy, but don't expect everyone else to have the same opinion!

You're likely unaware that those Genesis models sold elsewhere in the world, carried the Genesis wings, not the Hyundai badge. In the early years, Genesis owners in the USA who added the wings were simply telling Hyundai to "wake up!" They finally did.

Because some G1 and G2 owners didn’t want other people to realize that they were actually driving a Hyundai (though a very nice one).

Others didn’t care what other people thought and just liked the car for the value it was. Some folks also rebadged their G2’s as G80’s - I don’t get it, but “to each his own”.

Or to match the logo that's already on the front?

Most dealer's did it anyway. I bought mine from the finance manager at a dealership and they had alerady done it. All I did was remove the rest of the rear badging. And I think this view looks a hell of a lot better than the G1 rear end, regardless of badging. But that's just my opinion ;)

First, saying 'to each his own' after rambling on with the judgemental word-vomit does nothing to hide the...judging. You sound like some woman from the south "she's a horrible person...bless her heart. Lol doesn't change the rest of what you said.

Like I said above, I'd prefer it to match the logo on the front of the car.

I don't know why it gets your panties in such a wad...the G80s (when they first came out) were NO different than the G2 Hyundai Genesis, save the logo on the clock and etching on the windows, neither of which is close to a functional difference. You could argue that the early G2s may be better quality, since they were still made in Korea.

100% spot-on sir.

Just was thinking this yesterday. My interior is actually holding up far better than any Audi/VW product I've ever had and on-par with BMW. I'm not a huge fan of the rubberized buttons, BUT the buttons started wearing off on every Audi/VW product I've ever had. I don't think these rubberized ones will ever do that. (y)

I agree - the G2 was/is a far better looking car inside and out! (my opinion too)

I never said I wasn't going to judge - Last I checked, I'm free to do that (free speech and all of that stuff...) just like you are entitled to rebadge your car to lead other's to believe it's something more than it really is.

Like I said above, I'd prefer it to match the logo on the front of the car.
Your choice, but I don't have to agree with it1

So... you think the G80 is not madein Korea???? Way to know about the Hyundai you bought!

I was aware of the fact that Genesis was an actual sub brand and badged differently in Korea versus here where it was just another Hyundai model (a more expensive, nicer one, of course) - I don't buy that putting the wings on was intended to or actually made Hyundai do anything!

:rolleyes::rolleyes: oh lord.... The fact you think a G80 is "more" than a G2 is amusing. Yes, price wise, it's more, but I'm glad I got all of the same features/amenities for THOUSANDS LESS going with a G2 rather than a G80. My heart hurts for the people who bought G80's since the bump in price. It's the same car, buddy. To us, to 99 percent of people that look at it, and even to the DMV/insurance companies that are titling/insuring them as Hyundai. Keep the rudeness to yourself and don't try to be bigger than somebody; it's not a good look for you.

Cheers

Sure, but you have to admit it is the logical approach!

I have a '15. And (as stated in my post) it was made in Korea...I know exactly where it was made. There was an article in 2016 about G80 production moving to Mobile, AL. Since that came from the CEO I assumed that happened...if it hasn't...it matters not. Doesn't affect my 2015 :)

It seems that you are so caught up it the “I don’t care if it’s a Hyundai but I don’t want it to look like a Hyundai to others “ syndrome you can’t even see it. Why isn’t it just as logical to change the logo on the front of the car? Lots of folks do. Not elite or snobby enough? Don’t like to be called that? Just wanted folks to see what it’s like to be called snobby.

Nah. I'm caught up in the "it's my car and I don't care about what some douche on the internet says about it" syndrome.

Why isn’t it just as logical to change the logo on the front of the car? Lots of folks do.

Show me one person who's changed the front Genesis logo over to the Hyundai H.

Why isn’t it just as logical to change the logo on the front of the car?
Maybe because:

1. as I said above, the dealer had already changed it when I bought it
2. there's holes drilled into the front bumper for the emblem, it's not just easily adhered like the rear
3. when asked, I tell people that it's just a Hyundai. Like others have said...the reactions are funny

How many more reasons do you need?

Not elite or snobby enough? Don’t like to be called that? Just wanted folks to see what it’s like to be called snobby.

Elite or snobby? Sorry to break it to anyone here but owning a Genesis is neither elite or snobby. That goes for your G90 too, hotshot.

The 2009-2014 Genesis Sedan did not come with any logo on the front of the car (not on the hood nor on the grill). Some people added the wings that came on the Korean version. Don't see many cars with no logo on the front.

Yes, and that was part of its allure and its mystique. Its beauty sucked me in and I'm still in love 7 years and 40,000 miles later.

My signature line here used to note that I own a '12 3.8 Sedan, Premium Package. Who knows where that info went???

It's also pretty obvious that the quality and the "bang for the buck" features put Hyundai and Genesis on the map. The badge was just some icing on the cake. I'm keeping mine as long as possible. My extended warranty runs till 2024, or 120,000 miles. It could easily outlive me. Hopefully, not!

Even though JD Power just ranked Genesis brand #1 in quality, and KIA was#2 and Hyundai #3.

Yet the "premium" brands folks always say are the best of the best pretty much failed on the list as far as quality and troubles goes?

Hmmmmm.

Mercedes? BMW? Nope. Winners in J. D. Power quality survey will surprise you
Good observation. Why do people pay extra for a Mercedes when they know quality is only average. What could be more important than quality in a car. The badge rather than giving status to the driver says to me that he screwed up.

Yes correct, I assumed (based on OPs post and mine that followed) that we were all talking second gen here.

But good point - I forgot about the 09-14!

At one time, maybe 25 years ago, MB was actually considered to be the epitome of high quality. I think there are several reasons why that is not so true anymore:
  • 25 years ago, each auto manufacturer made their own engines, transmissions, anti-lock brake systems, and just about everything that went into a car. Now, many of these companies have spun off they parts manufacturing into separate companies that make parts for many automakers, or they have significant technology and joint venture agreements with other automakers, and there are many independent companies such as Aisin, ZF, Continental, Delco, Mahle, etc that supply various automotive systems to all automakers. So now, it is fairly easy for any automaker to build a car with a reliable engine or transmission, (and just about anything else) by sourcing them from third party companies or other automakers, taking away the relative advantage that MB once had.
  • There have been a large number of mergers in the in auto industry. So especially in the luxury segment, cars like Rolls Royce had terrible reliability. But now RR is owned by BMW and uses BMW drivetrains, etc.
  • MB has tried to be on the cutting edge of technology and engineering, and that has taken its toll on quality.

I would assume this is a rhetorical question? If not, they buy them to show that they are "successful" in life. They never open the hood nor wash them. The ONLY thing they want is to show that badge. I'm not judging, we all have faults.

Find a newer (2016 and up, leased) MB, BMW, or Audi that has the same color wheels all around the car. Ain't happenin'
