Blind Spot Detection in HUD display

Hello,

I just realized that BSD (blind spot detection) is not showing up in HUD display anymore. I did check settings and it's enabled there but I can not see cars behind in blind spot showing up when driving. My question is whether I'm supposed to see somebody standing in blind spot when my vehicle is not running so I can show this behavior at dealership. Since mine is not working I have no idea if something shall show up in HUD in such curcumstances. Can anybody who has this working confirm that something will show up in HUD if there is an object in blind spot when car is parked.

Won’t show up when then car is parked. I believe your car must be moving and the object to be detected must be approximately the same speed as your car

I think BSD works only when reaching above a certain MPH, when parked you should have cross traffic alert, and that doesn't show on the HUD but I don't remember.

For cross traffic alert you have to be in reverse.

Question: My Blind Spot Detection (BSD) in the Head UP Display (HUD) occoaionally get turned off without me actually turning it off. I have to go back into the HUD settings and "re-check" the HUD content to include the BSD. Then in a day or two it goes off again. Is this something that i am inadvertently doing to cut it off?

Aside from manually changing setting, I cannot imagine what you could be doing. If, however, you work at an electric gerating plant or Area 51, this could happen according to the manual:
• The system may turn off due to
strong electromagnetic waves

having this thread in mind while I was driving to work today I was actively watching my HUD.

I did notice something interesting, as I passed cars on the road and they went into my blind spot the mirror lights activated, but the HUD did not IF I was moving away from the vehicles, If I slowed down and let them hang in my blind spot the HUD would pop up about 3 seconds after the mirrors.

there seems to be a bit of a delay in the module communication.

Mr. Incredible, that is very interesting. Especially for the fact tat i depend on the HUD BSD alone sometimes. I would hope that there will be no delay for the HUD, I will look for that as well.

However, my issue is that the BSD in the HUD gets totally "unchecked" in the settings. Then i have to go back into the settings and recheck it. So what i am doing each time i drive, is making sure my BSD is working in my HUD.

I rarely look at my HUD for anything other than speed, and then only when I see the PoPo. My last 2 vehicles only had the mirror lights for BSD and I am an old school driver, I check my mirrors and look over my shoulder into my "blind spots". But the way I have my mirrors set I don't really have blind spots.

my other car is a 1939 Ford Tudor with Round compact sized mirrors and a high split rear window that you can barely see out of, I've learned to drive by physically checking my blind spots.

totally agree that mirrors can be set so that there are no blind spots..... just can't convince my wife of that logic. haha

my wife got convinced about 8 years ago after she changed lanes into the tire side wall of a lifted Ford truck, She lucked out all that happened was the tire rubbed off some paint and she didn't get sucked under the 4x4

I tried several different scenarios with my wife watching the side mirror and me watching the HUD. Both seems to go on simultaneously. Would you please describe the case where you saw a delay in a little more detail (step by step). Thanks

as I said, it was while I was passing traffic, not someone creeping up on me. but where I was moving along at a good clip and the passing the cars.. If I get a chance I will setup my track camera and see if I can video it.

I don’t think this explains your observered discrepancy in onset times but you should be aware of this fact from the manual:
(1) BSD (Blind Spot Detection)
The blind spot detection range
varies relative to vehicle speed.
Note that if your vehicle is travel-
ing much faster than the vehicles
around you, the warning will not
occur.

i am pretty sure that the BSD only works when the car is at a certain speed. You can find out in the owners manual. I DID learn that the BSD can be disabled when you pass certain objects on the road. (i.e. - metal walls, construction sites etc.). A guy in the service department found a publication on this. Also, it is easy to inadvertently hit the BSD switch to the left of the steering wheel and cut it off.

works at any speed above 0, doesn't work if you are stopped. I have seen it highlight when accelerating from a stop light. I believe however it requires the object in the blind spot to also be moving.

I see it highlight when I am passing other vehicles at a speed only slightly higher than theirs, thus causing them to hang in the blind spot, where if I am moving at a good clip faster it doesn't pick them up.

I have also had it pick up ghosts activating with no cars around me at all (my Lexus did this as well) which is likely RF interference from something. As just recently it didn't pick up a car that was clearly in my blind spot, I could not see them in my mirror, no indication on the HUD or Mirror, no alert when I put on my signal, but when I checked my blind spot myself they were there.. Good thing I have the old habit of turning and looking and don't rely on the technology 100%
