  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

G70 Sport AWD...$57k...luxury. G70 needs to fall in between to make sense.

My guess all along is $54.6k. I won’t change my guess...but now thinking it will be a smidge less.

Right, I think that is the max. If it is too close, I'd buy the G80. I'd go for a smidge less, closer to 53. I'm sure they want to pull up a few Sonata buyers too. They have to be able to entice the guy ready to drop 33k on a Sonata to bump up to luxury with a good base model.

I know it's nearing the end of a model year, but on Autotrader I can find a 2018 G80 3.3T Sport for anywhere from $51k (basically 52) - $59k.... I know there may be model year end incentives and what not, but the G70 has to be more competitively priced than that

Im still saying it won't be over 51k at the max, anything over that makes it way too expensive.

You cannot start predicting prices on deals one can get, etc. Need to go by MSRP.

With that said...my initial reply to you stands. No way in hell the loaded G70 will be cheaper than the loaded Stinger. Plain common sense.

I can't predict prices being lower, but you can predict them being higher? Interesting.

What? I am predicting on existing MSRP facts...and where the car falls in the lineups.

You are predicting based on your deal making and how low a salesman might go.

Stick to facts...not bargaining skills.

Correct, that was a completely subjective statement that was what I personally believe. However, the point still stands - your number is "around 55k", not "around 50k". Your number is almost 10% higher than every single article we've read, and your number is based purely on a car that Genesis has done everything they can do to separate themselves from.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - stop comparing this car to the Stinger, and start comparing it to its competition. Go back to the Straightpipes video if you'd like - when Genesis held their event in Canada, they explicitly told the reviewers that they don't want them comparing this car to the Stinger. I'm not sure why we continue to do so.

IMO, pricing discussion should be its own thread.
Agreed. IMHO, pricing discussion is a futile exercise until actual numbers are released.

You could have said the same thing about lease details and money factor a while back. Yeah, it's a bit off topic, but what else are we gonna discuss until we have more to chew on?

Going on the record... >51K = slow launch. <51K = cars flying off the shelf. After all, why would Genesis want to tease us with "around 50K" and then go considerably higher and kill the buzz?

Have to point out one more thing...perhaps a few.

I think we DO have to compare to the Stinger. It has same underpinnings...and Kia/Genesis under same umbrella.

Therefore...you have to look at the top Stinger price...and by basic logic...assume that the luxury version of it HAS to be more. Nothing else to really consider here. I guessed $54.6k way back...and I stick to it since I don't cheat...LOL. Like I said I have a funny feeling it might come in between $53k and $54k. Just look at the individual components/parts.

BUT...the other kicker is...Genesys offers 3 years of free scheduled maintenance...and the cost of coming to your home/business for test drives, delivery and warranty issues. You MUST put a price on that. Nothing is free folks.

So...that is my logic....added to my previously mentioned logic.

I like this line of thinking, but I could see them pushing to 52 with that statement. Too many variables between related lines, previous model year & 'new hotness' factor to be worth much energy. Best to wait.

What I'm more concerned about is the salesman I spoke with who said he didn't think we'd see these cars in the US prior to Oct/Nov and I'm curious if anyone else is hearing the same. That puts them squarely behind the tariff garbage. Isn't Korea is a valuable tech manufacturing partner? IMO we kind of need them in our supply chain and don't want 'em any more beholden to the Chinese gov't.

ok stingermang, I'll give you 52K max! ;) In reality, I think there are 3 pricing tiers:
Under 50K = cars flying off the shelf
50K - 52K = a moderate reception and likely a successful launch
Over 52K = slower launch and more consideration for other cars (personally I'll have my eye on a clean CPO A5 Sportback - Prestige)

Lastly...if you want to compare to other brands completely...go for it.

Take BMW 3-series (not M3...too fast)...the S4...and the MB AMG. Spec out each of them with every option the fully loaded G70 has. I mean everything. 19" rims...LSD...dynamic suspension...cold weather...warm weather...all driving assisted crap...AND...then you MUST slap on included 3-year scheduled maintenance for each.

You will find that all 3 cars are at a minimum $15k USD more than the G70 if it was at $54k USD. Audi S4 being cheapeast and a tick under $70k.

Do not compare prior model years...and do not compare used/CPO. New to new...identical specs and year.

Chill pill Beefer... just saying if it's over 52K, I'll likely look elsewhere. No detailed analysis needed. That said, I still enjoy reading your posts! :D

Considering the G70 hasn't been sold in the US, and there are always buyers on the fence between trims, I don't believe you're doing a service to your own comparison efforts by deliberately leaving out 2018 G80. It's comparable, if only on a numbers basis...and still a current year car. (At the risk of indulging sample bias, this view was expressed by at least one person earlier in the thread. I consider all of us 'highly interested parties' or we wouldn't be here.)

The Canadian site had different service contracts available. It may also be Genesis intends the announced 'about 50k' figure to be representative of the hardware, sans service contract. Who knows..? Probably only someone at Genesis corporate at this point.

I am including that. What I meant by current year is...latest year. So if the latest G80 is 2018...than that is fair game.

You can see in prior posts I am pinning the G70 top spec between the top spec Stinger and top spec G80 Sport AWD.

I definitely wouldn't pay over $52k for a used car.

What if it was a 2017 loaded M4...with low miles? ;) Or a 2017 R S5 for that matter. That would be a steal on both counts...hahaha.
