  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No Genesis Yet!
So like the test of you I am really looking forward to the G70 release in the US and I really want one! Last week when all the media hit about the event in Maine I was extremely disappointed to see Genesis quote $35,000 for the entry-level RWD trim. The Canadian website lists the entry-level at 41,115 Canadian dollars which is just $31,275 US! And that includes the following that's not standard on the US entry-level trim:
  • All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
  • Wide-type power sunroof
  • Heated, perforated-leather steering wheel
  • Artificial leather seating (heated front)
I want to buy a Genesis because I know I am getting good bang for my buck. This tells me I am not getting a great value after all... What do you all think?

If you compare to Canada, you'll end up being disappointed. It was the same with the Stinger, you get a lot more for less money. I suggest you don't think about that, and you just compare to other cars in the US. It's still a good value.

Contrary to popular belief, pricing of vehicles in Canada is based on a wide range of factors, not solely tied to CAD-USD FX. It's simply incorrect to assume you can figure out the U.S. price by applying the current daily FX rate to the Canadian pricing.

First, how do you know what the US version will have re standard equipment? Re the seats in your list, is it the heated seat you're worried about not being included or is the Arificial Leather (whatever that is)?

Source is here. Canadian base model is more than 10% cheaper and includes AWD, likely a $2,000+ option in the US, a sunroof, heated steering wheel and heated front seats.

I can't see any pricing information in your link. Re AWD, I would think that would be a must in Canada whereas in the US market, it would depend on where you live.

I agree that you can't just look at the USD --> CAD exchange rate to calculate pricing... there are plenty of other factors that must go into pricing... Also, we can't make any completely accurate statements about Trim levels and standard vs. optional stuff until Genesis officially releases the G70 and announces all the trim levels

What's the cost to import one, everything included, if you were REALLY serious about doing so?

How would maintenance be treated in that circumstance?

I'm not sure about the overall cost to import... BUT -->

This has been discussed in one of the other threads (I can't remember which one) but I don't think a decisive answer was reached. I think the group consensus was that Genesis Motors Canada is completely separate from Genesis Motors USA and that all maintenance could be done at a US dealer, but the warranty work would have to be completed in Canada. This is not a problem if you live in Buffalo, per say; but if you live in Miami, this is an impossible hurdle to jump over...

Out of curiosity, why would you import? The G70 should be released in the USA sometime in August, apparently. They have already arrived in ports from import reports...

Genesis has released all the trim levels, just not their prices.

I meant what exactly is included in each trim level... there have been many differing reports on what is standard on each trim level; the only way we will know for sure is when Genesis officially releases it and we can go online and build it

Only if the cost to import was significantly < cost to buy in US . but the warranty issue is prob enough to make that irrelevant since im in denver

Exactly. Based on the cost of "around $50k" for a fully loaded 3.3T Sport, and the fact that the same car costs $57,500 CAD ($43,641 in USD)... the difference of roughly $6,000 minus any import costs would not be worth losing access to the warranty (especially Hyundai's excellent warranty)

I'm not sure why we would distrust the US Press release that details everything linked above? It goes into detail on each trim for both the 2.0 and 3.3 engines.

I had totally forgotten that that article was a Genesis direct press release article and not another speculative article... my bad. So, yes it seems that that article is very clear on what is available for each trim level for each engine option!
