  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Smart Key Card

Yes I received the precut key in about 4 business days and it was $42. I'm all set and everything is working well.

Awesome, thanks for the update! Ordered from the same seller but still waiting for delivery which is now delayed.

I just traded in my 2015 Genesis v8 5.0 and the dealer was only interested in getting the 2 fobs. Is there anyway I can have my key card RE-PROGRAMMED to my new 2018 G80 Sport?

What did they tell you at the service/parts department? Don't they do the programming there?

I haven’t been to a dealership. The vehicle was brought to me to test drive at work, we discussed all numbers at my work, the car was delivered to my home and the 2015 was driven away - isn’t this Genesis’ business model? I haven’t stepped foot in the dealership, because it doesn’t exist.

You say it does not exist yet your original post references "the dealership" That does not happen much in the US as we have actual dealerships. OTOH, they do have a facility someplace where they service cars. Could be a circus tent or warehouse, but something. Good chance they have a phone there too. Call and ask them

My experience has been that the people on this forum are often more knowledgeable than the service department. If anyone has any relevant information on this, I would appreciate a helpful response. It's why I asked the question. Virtually anything asked on this forum can be answered through other resources.

Also, I re-read what I wrote and you have misquoted me. Please learn how quotes work and when to use them. Thanks.

This is what you said: "I just traded in my 2015 Genesis v8 5.0 and the dealer was only interested in getting the 2 fobs." There is a dealer. Thee is a building. They probably have a service department.
Yes, people here often have good answers but if they said they had their's done at a Kansas dealer it is probably of little help. Unless you want to mail it along with your fobs.

I just want to know if anyone has had this done - if you don't have the answer, there is no reason to be rude - just move on and let someone else answer my question (or not). I invite you to review the http://www.genesisedmonton.ca website and tell me if you see a number for service on there - I do not.

Johnny, sorry I don't have an answer for you. If I'm not mistaken, I thought I read that the part-numbers were different or that something had changed with the FOB between the G80 and the Genesis. Please take that piece of information with a very low degree of reliability. Unfortunately, you might be the first to try it. Usually the dealer charges less than $50 to program the FOBs. If you are keen to try it, just make sure to take all three in; they need all three when they attempt a reprogram. Best of luck. I love having my card in my wallet; I never forget my "keys" nor my wallet; they are always together.

Also there is a sales number on the site (Sales: 1-855-810-7733). They should know a service number to call.

Finally got to the dealer and had my Xmas present key card programmed the other day. Only $60. Dealer had never done one before and had to call corporate. Required a software update that too almost an hour to download. Don’t notice any changes or improvements related to the update.

Just curious about everyone's results lately. Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that there were two different part numbers for these key cards, depending on whether the car was manufactured before or after March 2015. This key card on eBay says it's compatible with both: OEM Keyless Panic Card Key Remote Immobilizer Blank For HYUNDAI 2015-18 Genesis | eBay

Has anyone had any issues? I'm (hopefully) getting a 2015 Genesis soon, and thought if I walked in with a card for them to program when they're prepping the car for me, maybe I wouldn't have to cough up $$ to reprogram it. And if nothing else, it would save me a trip to the dealer a few weeks later to get it done.

looks like they are all in Korea. If anyone knows of a USA seller, please let me know.

Otherwise I may break down and pay for the expedited shipping from Korea (need to confirm with one of the dealerships that they'll program it for me though - Im less concerned about having the key cut)
I checked with my local dealer's Parts Dept today they can order a card smart key for my Genesis G80 Sport for $238. and delivery in 3 days.

Which dealer are you referring to? A dealer here in Hampton Roads VA quoted me 600+ just for the card. Another dealer simply looked in the computer and said it couldn’t be done. I’d prefer to buy local or at least within the US but doesn’t seem to be an option for me in my area.

Does anyone have any experience with ordering from the hyundaiaccess.com website?

that is where I got mine, received it in 4 days, took to dealer and paid $100 to have it activated, took 5 minutes but they charge minimum of 1 hour of labor.

you will have to order the precut key from your dealership because you have to show proof ownership. The box the smart key comes in comes with the instructions for the tech on how to program and the part number they need to order for the precut key.. so even a clueless dealership should be able to figure it out.

I will warn you, the tech is likely to say it cannot be programmed because you can only have 2 keys to the car, HE IS WRONG, the owners manual specifically states there can be 2 keys and 1 smart card,

additionally if the tech follows the instructions correctly he needs to move your original keys AWAY FROM THE CAR after he starts the programming, they have to be out of range otherwise the car won't find the smart card, the instructions tell them this, the dealer I used refused to look at the instructions I gave him because "he knew how to do it" after farting around for 30 minutes he finally read them and low and behold it worked.

Thanks for the quick and thorough response. I think I’ll be getting one soon now that I’ve decided to wait a bit longer to buy the sig p365.

Here is the link for my local dealership. Quoted $238. You will need your vin number for the order.

Here is another source I have had good luck with. More expensive than what my dealer quoted.
