  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Smart Key Card

Mines works fine
They were able to cut the key that goes inside the card? My dealership couldn't cut the key, so they ordered one from Genesis. The key that Genesis sent still didn't work in the door or the trunk. The cut looks like it's slightly off.

My dealer was also unable to cut the key; I took it to a locksmith in Garland (TX) and they were able to do it (not that I needed the key portion in my 5 years of DH ownership).

Okay.. I'm going to try a locksmith. These keys a pretty close. One sent from Genesis and the other out of the fob. I'm hoping they can put it in cutting machine and make it work.

I have two 81996 B1010 blank keys for the Key card. Had the cards for my two 2015 Hyundai Genesis-could not reprogram the card, so had get one for the second vehicle. Apparently there is no Key card for my 2019 G80. I bought these as spares, and just found them when cleaning out one of my desk drawers. One free to the first two members who respond to the post.

Hello DrNo, I have a 15 5.0 . I would like to have one of those Keycards. It's something that I want and don't need. You can send a message if you would like to chat further about it. Thanks Kraig.

Just be prepared that not all locksmiths can do it. The problem is/was the size of the key was too small for the typical locksmith equipment. When this first came up on the forums in 2014, there were only a couple of locksmiths in the country who could do it. One was in Garland and I want to say the other one was in Western New York. I ended up making a round trip to Dallas from Austin to do it; I chose a day when I had meetings most of the day anyway, and just conducted them all from my car 😁.

I would love to have a key blank!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Well, dealership tried and couldn't get it to work either. They said they tried 3 times but on the final step it "crashes". This sucks.

It took me two separate trips to Greenway Hyundai in Orlando but was finally able to get the new key card I bought elsewhere online programmed for my 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8. Greenway’s out the door cost was $195 for programming the card and providing the precut emergency key for the card. The key card cost me $75 so $270 was my total cash outlay for everything. So far, the card works great and I sure am glad I don’t have to carry around the fob and keys anymore.

Did you try the key in the trunk and the door? Did it open/unlock them?

Here is the problem, I got mine to work by doing this.

The key in the smart key is too long, the end of it has a few mm more metal than the fob key,

I used a grinder and CAREFULLY ground it down until it worked in the door, trunk, and glovebox.

Look at your image:

Yes, the new key opens both the trunk and the door. Sure do like not having to carry that fob anymore.
