  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The alternator has gone on my 2009 Genesis sedan 4.6. Does anyone who is mechanically inclined know what the labor charge might be to install a replacement? Or how many "book" hours it may take? Thank you in advance to all .

EdP, Thank you for your legwork in tracking down the estimating website. BUT, In the "real world" of mechanics and hourly labor charges here in Connecticut. I checked with 2 separate local garages whom both quoted me a 3 hour job at $105.00 per comes out after taxes to about $350.00. A far cry from the NAPA estimate of $90 to $115 :--( I'm the one whos crying :-( lol

takes about an hour to do it yourself on most cars.. I can knock it out in 20 minutes on any of my hot rods, the newer more complicated vehicles with serpentine belts take a bit longer.. but 3 hours? does that include 2 1 hour smoke brakes?

I've only looked at mine and I see two bolts and the belt. Can't see the electrical connection that is probably in the back. Of course, there is air fare to fly in a contortionist from Latvia that can get his hands in there.

Have you tried the dealer? My guess is they are all using the same book rate. And it is not the NAPA book, though they do have shops they recommend. May be worth trying one and telling him what they say it should cost.
