  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 used Genesis...should I?

Would like an opinion, would you guys go for a 2015 w/ 14k miles or a 2016 w/ 33k miles. Same price.

How often do you drive? 20 miles a day? 100 miles a day? The '16 warranty will last longer but it doesn't matter if you hit 60k miles before the warranty is up. Some bugs may be apparent with the '15 but no car is perfect. Are they CPO?

Neither is CPO, I prob do 15k miles a year. Even if it's CPO, I don't think the 2015 gets the 5 year warranty on electronics? CPO warranty says you get the balance of the bumper to bumper (which for 2015 electronics was 3 years) and then power train is 10/100k.

The advantage of the 2016 is the expanded electronics factory warranty, but is it worth 15k miles to get that warranty or to get an exteneded warranty on a 2015 to cover that part (carmax, maxcare).

And the other question is did actual changes actually get made 2015 vs 2016. One year isn't always long enough to change a production line. As far as parts, I suspect they have similar part numbers so any issues resolved in 2016 because of new parts would be backwards compatible. At least that was the case with VW, new revisions of parts could be swapped for faulty old one within a specific car's generation.

Electronics will only be good for 3yr/30k on the '15. Depending on when that car was built, it could still be under the 3yr mark. You'll get 2 years out of the warranty for the '16 and 3 yrs, possibly, on the '15. It all comes down to your peace of mind with the vehicle. You're correct on the powertrain staying at 10yr/100k.

The replacement of a head unit is $3.5k to $4.5k. This has been verified by forum members that have had theirs replaced under warranty. If you get the aftermarket warranty and the unit goes bad, it already pays for itself. If you don't mind traveling to buy a car, there are some clean CPO '15's around.

I can confirm this. I purchased a CPO 15' sedan that had 27.5k miles on it. The electronics warranty was only covered for 3/36 from in service date on the 15 MY cars, so I only had a few months left. I ended up getting a CNA "near new" vehicle service contract wrap for up to 8 years, 150k on the odometer for $1200 with a $200 deductible. It was a no-brainer at that price.

This is a big reason why I don't specifically care to get a CPO Hyundai, the only advantage to a CPO is the 10/100k powertrain but I'm reasonably confident that stuff isn't going to fail. The 3.8 is pretty ubiquitous and doesnt have many known or significant issues, same with the 8 speed.

Yeesh that makes me feel way less confident about the CPO 15 I just bought. Ouch hope the HU doesn't go out.

EDIT: are we talking about the bottom part with the buttons and CD player, or the top part which is the screen? On eBay, second hand, they're $1,000-$1,500 or so (bottom part).

Bottom part. I don't know of anyone having the screen go out, but I guess it could have.

Good to know. There are plenty of working ones for sale on eBay. Looks like there may be 2 or 3 different part numbers - replacing it would involve knowing which you have. No way would I pay $4k, that's as much as the entire HVAC system cost me on one of my rental homes (2,400SF). I'd just as soon turn the car in and take the loss.

How many miles are on it and when did the original owner buy it? If it has under 36k and still within that 3 years, take it in as soon as you have a problem. If they do not replace it, they still have it in their system that you were have problems within the warranty period. That would make the decision a whole lot more black and white.

Run a carfax on it and it'll tell you when it was bought/registered. Unless you have supporting docs already..

Just an update for everyone, likely going to pull the trigger on a 2015 non-CPO V6 Tech with 13k miles. It'll get a MaxCare warranty for $1750 (5 years and 125k odometer miles). Looking through the MaxCare policy, its through TWG and appears to be exclusionary (they won't cover wear and tear items, negligence, glass, etc.).

Wow, almost like brand new with that mileage. If the price is right, good deal. Warranty seems typical on the wear items. Make sure electronics are covered.

That warranty is BTB or powertrain?

Didn't realize i didn't put the price in there, the price is $27k, im a firm believer in always sharing price when buying a car, it'll help others gauge the value of the deal they're getting, even if I did or didn't get a good deal.

Warranty covers everything except for a list of items, like a bumper to bumper warranty. I can take a pic of the contract and upload it if you guys want to read it....

No kidding. I have 11K on my 2018 G80 Sport and I’ve only had it for 5 months.
