  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’m starting this thread to allow the discussion on G70 Availability to move over here.

Not a huge fan of the auto hold so far - too much hesitation when you need to accelerate ...

I have never noticed any hesitation with Auto Hold. Just to make sure we understand these are two DIFFERENT features.
Auto Hold keeps the car from rolling forward when it is at a full stop. Engine is always running and it’s always in Drive.
Auto Start Stop I think turns the engine off
I apologize if this is already obvious to everyone else. I am just trying to sense of these observations.

Never felt any hesitation when accelerating with auto hold engaged in the three cars I had with that feature.

Are you saying that the g70 has the auto start/stop feature that bmw and mbz cars have where when fully stopped the engine shuts off to save fuel?

Or are you talking about the smart cruise auto start/stop feature where it will come to a full stop and start moving again if the car in front moves within 3 seconds?

If the second, on the g80 there is a hesitation after you tap the accel pedal to start moving again if the stop feature has timed out. It’s there to be sure the vehicle in front of you has started moving, if you tap the pedal and the vehicle hasn’t started moving the car will time out again, else it would jerk from the start/brake motion because the car in front is in its path.

EPA says "Yes" on Start-Stop Technology. Note that the 3.3 L engine is selected - definitely a major thumbs down if true.

According to this page every G70 with an automatic transmission has Start Stop technology

I can say with certainty that the G70 3.3T Sport that I have does not have automatic start stop. It might be included in other models of the G70 but it's not in mine.

Does anybody really know what the ones in the US will have though? There are differences in regions when it comes to this type of stuff. Beefer, is this info you've learned from your talks with the higher ups? Cause that I would believe, but just because people in Canada don't have it, doesn't mean we won't.

Higher ups. Philosophy is that if you have the Sport...you don't want impediments like that. Eco drive mode is sufficient for fuel economy.

Sounds good to me. Yeah, if I'm buying the G70 sport, I'm not that worried about fuel economy.

Many people believe that auto start/stop is only about fuel savings. I've been told that the primary reason for this technology existing is for meeting ever increasing emissions requirements.

True that...especially in large metropolitan areas.

It is becoming very popular. There is a pretty good explanation of it here.
Start-stop system - Wikipedia
Also states that 3.9 billion gallons of fuel a year are used for idling. Mentions electrical changes too.

Oh yeah, I believe it's for emissions as well, it's just not something I care about. The only reason I would care about it is for fuel purposes.

Emissions only matter if you breath. Seems like a lot of cars have it now and probably more in the future. I don't want to be critical of it since I never drove a car with it but it sounds like throttle lag would be a part of it. In stop and go traffic where you creep a few feet at a time it would seem to put a lot of strain on the system every 15 seconds or so. I'd have to try it.

Doesn’t work like that, car has to be at a full stop, foot fully on brake, rpms lower then XXX for more than XXX seconds.

I’ve driven 2 cars with it and can’t ever recall idle stop turning off the car in stop and go traffic, or even at a stop sign, only at a red light pretty sure the timeout was 10-15 seconds or some such, which is a long time in stop and go traffic sounless traffic is dead stopped it won’t engage the idle stop, If you are creeping along then it won’t turn off the car, even the SCC start/stop rarely disengages on me in L.A. stop and go traffic and it’s timeout is 3 seconds.
