  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Will the G70 pricing hold better than the Stinger?

I don't mind being an early adopter, but will be really P O'd if there's severe discounting next year, like the Kia Stinger has now. Are G70 sales doing well in Canada vs. the Stinger? This may give me a clue.

You pay to be early. That's how it is with any vehicle. As you get closer to the next year, the prices will drop to make room for the next model. You could always wait until next year.

And it will be ever less the year after. It all depends on how much of a drop you are looking for. Wait long enough and you will get it but you may be driving an old car.

The price cuts on the 2018 Stinger are unusually high, even for end of year. I don't know why.
Probably because Kia was too proud of it and overpriced it in the first place. Top trim with AWD should not have been over 50k, especially with the missing features.

I just looked at a loaded(?) Stinger today, $52K + $1,500 added markup! Does that number sound familiar to G70 buyers? Now, why would the Stinger be discounted?

Don't know what world they think they're living in. Last Kia dealership I went to is offering me 10k off a new GT2 Stinger. This is as of 9 days ago.

It sounds like your dealership is more of a stealership.

I don't mind getting less of a discount as an early adopter. It's not about bragging rights or wanting to be first but about having the car to use sooner rather than later.

What I do mind is having ridiculous up-charges for buying early. If there are add-on "high demand premiums" or "introduction up-charges" or any other such nonsense, I'll walk. And that would leave enough of a sour taste in my mouth that I wouldn't return. And I'd let Genesis Motors know why I had chosen not to buy a Genesis based on my dealer experience. It's exactly the kind of image Genesis should be (and I believe is) trying to move past as it establishes itself as a premium brand. I like the G70, from everything that I've seen and read (haven't driven it yet, obviously). And it looks like a really good value. I'm willing to forego a steep discount to get one sooner rather than waiting a year to see if things loosen up. But if the dealers start playing silly games as happened when the Stinger first was introduced, I'm out. There are other cars that I also find very appealing alternatives. And I know I can get those without any silliness.

My point was not the price of the Stinger so much as the dealership "experience". I live in an affluent community. Here BMW stands for Basic Marin (county) Wheels. The experiences with the "luxury" brand dealers would make you thing that your feet don't smell. Conversely, the Chevy, Ford, Nisan, Kia, etc. sales people seem to approach you holding their noses.

Hyundai seems to realize that they have to recreate the Lexus experience to move the Genesis brand up market. Don't forget, Toyota/Lexus did this first, and they are amazing at making you think you are one of the masters of the universe. (Or they have been - the local Lex dealership sold recently to a chain. They no longer kiss-up nearly as well as they used to.)

Still can get better deals on a Q50.

The '19MY will get those missing features for a modest price bump (under a $1k).

Pricing can be a tricky thing.

A builder of an exercise bike saw modest sales until they hiked their prices from $1.2k to over $2.2k - where, due to the significant price hike, was seen as being more quality.

Biggest problem for the Stinger is still lease terms; even w/ lease cash, can get better monthly payments on the Infiniti, and even lower spec'd Germans.

True, but this is limited as far as the brand recognition will allow. You can't simply increase the price of a bottle of "Charles Shaw" wine (the two-buck chuck of trader joe's fame) to $100, call it Chuck's Reserve, and sell it next to Stag's Leap. I suspect Kia suffers from this to an extent, and is the main driving force for why Hyundai is spending so much effort to develop a separate brand.

Kia<Toyota - - - Genesis=Lexus? At a $15K discount from the BMWs & Audis I'm cross shopping, the Genny will sell.

I think we're all in the same boat and hoping for G70 success.
