  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello. I'm considering trading my 2012 3.8 Genny to a 2015. Is the AWD worth the mpg that I will lose? Appreciate your help.

Depends on where you live and how you drive. If you are in snow territory, it is a definite plus to have AWD. I've easily passed cars on a snow covered hill while they struggled. It is also good in rain too.

If I lived in an area where in never snows, it would not be a "must have" but buying used, if everything else on the car checks out, I'd not hesitate for the small mpg difference.

Agree with EdP. If you have any bad weather issues, especially snow or similar, get the AWD.

Agreed with replies above, not to mention all the major upgrades and tech advancements you would enjoy going from 2012 to 2015.

The AWD is nice, you also get the active cornering with AWD, it makes the car feel really planted on long fast corners.

Yes. Better traction never hurts, especially in the rain and snow. However, if you are a penny pincer when it comes to buying gas just buy the RWD model if you never get ice or snow in your area.

100% Agree!

I live in the south where it never really snows. We may get a couple of flakes, but that's it. It is hard to find an AWD here. Dealers typically don't order them in, however it does rain a lot down here and we travel to snow country at least once per year. I had them locate my vehicle as the one thing I required was a heated steering wheel. To get that required I get a 3.8 AWD with all the options. I also have found if I run top tier gas I get better highway mileage. I typically run close to 80mph and will average between 26.9 to 28.7. I can't complain about the mileage and with a 21 gal tank you can get real close to 500 miles between fill ups. To me it is worth it.

Top tier gasoline should have no affect on gas mileage, it just has more detergents to keep the engine clean. Also high octane gas does nothing for the Genesis except lighten you wallet.

I do not use high octane unless it is recommended (like for my wife's car). I ran regular gas (not top tier) for a while and checked my highway mileage. Then I ran top tier gas for a while and checked my highway mileage. I got about 1 to 2 mpg better with top tier. Don't expect this to apply to everyone, just me. Around town I don't care what I use, but if I'm planning highway driving, then top tier gas goes in the tank. Trust me I was surprised as I thought I'd be okay either way if I put in Chevron injector cleaner in every 5000 miles. Not asking anyone to change what they do - just letting you know what I've experienced in my Genesis

For anyone casually browsing, this is only true for the 3.8 version.

For the 5.0 Genesis, premium fuel is recommended. Same with on the newer 3.3T Genesis.
