  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am the original owner of this car and have had it 61/2 years with currently 51,000. Today the Emission malfunction light came on and has not gone out after maybe 15 miles of driving. I did get gas yesterday and checked to make sure the cap was on correctly and it seemed right but I took it off and put it back on to make sure. Has anybody had this light show up on their car?

Go to your local pep boys and have them scan the car for the code.

The Check engine light can come on for any of a few dozen reasons, from a bad O2 sensor to an open gas cap, to a misfire or clogged fuel injector.

Without the ODB code you can’t troubleshoot.

Had the same problem recently, but it was accompanied with a very rough engine. Turns out a rodent had eaten thru 2 fuel injector wires atop the engine.

Six or seven months ago, my mileage dropped by 3 mpg or so. About the same time, I thought one of my tires had gone out of balance.

After the injection wires were repaired, the vibration I had been experiencing disappeared, and my mileage has improved.

I now believe that the first wire the rat chewed thru was enough to decrease my mileage and cause a slight vibration, but not enough to illuminate the engine light.

Are the wires soy based coated? I read vermin love the taste of soy.

I wanted to update this thread. So I went to Autozone the next day and had them scan the code. The guy asked if it was a check engine light as their scanner only read if it was. I told him the light in the manual said it was for emissions so I did not know if they were one and the same. He plugged in and then hooked up to the computer and there was nothing to read, no codes thrown. I got back in the car and the light was out and has not come on since. I am going to assume that maybe I did not have the gas cap on all the way as they have a little play when on and somehow it was not secure when put on. Hooking up his scan tool seems to have reset the light. Hopefully, that was all there was to it. Curt

In our cars, intermittent codes reset themselves after 3 cold restarts with no repeat fault.
