  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Something Went Really Wrong

hard to tell in the pictures, looks kind of grey to me, which would mean leaking valve seal and oil getting into the combustion chamber.

if it is in fact all white, then likely a head gasket. which seems odd at $35K miles, but I guess anything is possible.

let us know what the dealer says.. any way you look at it, it should be warranty..

They think it might be a bad coil pack but that was just speculation.

I've been getting lousy gas mileage with this vehicle since day one which they also say may be a sign.

burning coolant will smell sweet, could be coil packs, or failed o2 sensor for that bank.

the burning coolant smell always reminds me of a burnt waffle smell

This didn't smell like coolant at all - raw gas. Almost like if you had poured it on the ground right out of the can.

All fixed under warranty. Was fuel pump module A - the one that was throwing a code.

They're recommending a $120 injector flush which I do not believe is necessary.

the fuel pump in the tank? or the high pressure one under the hood? not sure which Hyundai considers to be Fuel Pump A

That was a quick fix, good for you.

There is a good reason for the injector flush. Profit.

It may be a good thing to do, but I don't think you need it at 30k. Maybe double or triple that. I had a dealer try to sell it to me too but there is nothing in the manual about it.

I had the car for about two hours tonight and my take-away is this: it idles WAY better than it did when I bought it. It's smooth, so much so that I have to double check to see if it is even running. It accelerates way better as well, no hesitation at all. It runs like a different car. I'll probably run a few tanks of premium in it going forward.

They ran a diagnostic on the USB port (see my other thread) and found nothing wrong with it. Indeed it works as advertised now (shrugs). I wonder if they cut the power to the car and it reset itself somehow. I have an Apple Thunderbolt monitor where sometimes I have to cut the power to it in order to wake up the USB ports. It was dead as disco for two straight days. I'll report back on this.
