If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I bought the 2015 Genesis in June of 2014...I wanted the original Genesis with the rear wheel drive & Tau V8, but were all gone. They sold here in Ontario for $45000. So I waited & bought the new version...Now $65000...rip off.
The V8 is fantastic...420 HP & lots of fun...but so many things are wrong with this vehicle that I have never experienced in any other vehicle I have owned...Domestic or imported.
Air conditioner...replaced condenser one year ago...a year later acting up again.
Driver's seat...will not return to upright position...I'm tall enough that I don't mind but my wife cannot drive it.
Windshield wiper motor... wipers work...sometimes...you have to fiddle with switch but in winter you literally have to get out & pull the wiper blade to get it moving.
Oil change...dealer charges $175...sure it's synthetic but a garage around the corner from my work charges me $90 for same thing.
Windshield...because of HUD replacement costs over $2000...insurance is going to love that.
Side mirrors...they tilt down when you back up...Why??? They never, ever return to the exact same position when you go forward. I know you can shut this off but damned if I can remember how.
Trunk lock...there is a lock for your trunk, right beside the power shut button...don't push the lock button by mistake ( as my wife did) had to take it to the dealer for them to find the unlock button , inside the glove box ( originally they didn't know where it was either).
Owners manual...There Are Three of Them !!!!!

I drive two hours a day to & from work...I do not have time to screw around with this nonsense.

Steve Brown...I'm sure there are other probs but how's this list for a start....

I understand your feelings. I went through similar with a car and would never buy that brand again. In my case it is what drove me to buy my first of five Hyundai/Genesis product and have never been happier.

As for the "ripoff" comment, what do you think is a better bargain for an equally equipped car?

can't speak to the AC or Wipers,

The oil change = all dealers charge at least 1.5 -2.5 times an independent garage, doesn't matter what brand.. kind of a moot point to complain about.

All cars with HUD have an expensive windshield, it is what it is, I've owned several vehicles with HUD and if I can't get it, it will always be an option I take. to each their own.

Side Mirror reverse tilt - user issue. Turn off the mirrors.. your mirror adjustment select button, turn it off, if either Left or Right has a blue LED they are turned on, turning them off (second press) stops the reverse tilt, this is the same on many cars with this feature. The reason it doesn't return is because the mirror was moved or adjusted not saved into the memory function, when it returns it is returning to the last saved memory setting, so update the memory setting.

Trunk lock button - user issue. the lock button in the glove box is for valet mode, you lock the trunk, then lock the glove box, give the fob to the valet and keep the physical key so they can't get in the glove box or the trunk and steal your stuff, again this is common on all higher end cars, nothing unique or new to Genesis.

The lock button on the trunk lid is to lock the car after you retrieve the stuff from your trunk so you don't have to fumble with your fob.. exit car, open trunk, get stuff, press lock button, car locks all doors, closes trunk, and sets alarm. I use this feature every day.

All of your complaints are user issues related to someone too lazy to read their manual and learn their vehicle. I work 2 jobs 16 hours a day, commute nearly 100 miles round trip between both and still took a few minutes to familiarize myself with my new car..

3 owners manuals OMG call the police. My Lexus had 7, my MBZ had 9. get over it.

maybe you would be better off taking a bus or a train, instead of complaining about things that are obviously user issues.

I don't think these are really big issues in my opinion. I would understand if the car was falling apart on you but things like trunk button placement, mirrors or too many owner manuals wouldn't really be the thing that would make me not want to buy the car. I occasionally press the Memo 1 button so it bring both mirrors to my original position and I don't have a problem with that. Had the same issue in my previous 18 Sonata Ultimate but I never complained as it was never a safety or reliability concern. But that is just me.

As far as HUD windshield replacement goes, you might as well go with non HUD which is more than half of the price of the HUD one. You won't even notice the difference unless missing HUD label on the windshield will bother you.

good luck on your next vehicle.

Steve,

I bought my 15 5.0 AWD mostly because of the AWD and 5.0 combination available here in Canada (oh, and that was after having a 09 V6 and 12 5.0 R-Spec that were virtually trouble free Genesis models other than one sound system head replacement and a seat switch that went bad). I managed to get my 12 and 15 with a few kilometres as demo units - the 15 for $48G. Great deal for an awesome car! I have now had it over 2yrs and 50,000 Km without any reason to visit a Hyundai dealer whatsoever. (kind of like the first two Genesis models...)

As a result, I have to believe that your disappointment is either an isolated case - or you are one of those "hard to please" people. Yes, you've had an issue with the A/C, wipers and possibly your seat switch. Hey, it's possible to have an issue with any new vehicle and it sounds like the dealer is willing to perform warranty work. My advice is to simply let them do it and carry on.

As for the other points, they are user issues of which are under the "bitch and moan" category from my perspective. I personally have decided to do my own oil changes only because I want to know its been done right and my price is about $55 for synthetic oil + OEM filter. There is a reason people joke about taking their cars to the "stealership". An inflated oil change price might surprise a 16yr old with his first car, but this shouldn't be a shocker for anyone else.

Honestly!

I am sorry you feel this way about your 2015 Genesis. I can not say that I agree since my car has not had any of the issues you had. The mirrors are easy to adjust, just go into the setting menu and turn the auto tilt feature off. My mirrors always return to their original position so not a problem for me. My 2015 Genesis is not perfect. Faulty reverse camera and flaky auto braking feature when it rains, but nothing that turn me off from the car.
Good luck on your new ride, hopefully it is more to your liking.

With that being said, can you post a picture of your car just so I know that you are not some internet troll. It is funny your one and only post is just a rant on your way out.:)

I've not even thought about it until now. My 2018 mirrors do not tilt. The surround view eliminates the need for it. On my 2015, every once in a while they did not come back up fully, maybe one out of 10 times. Just a tap on the switch to adjust them.

Yes they do. Push the left or right adjustment button so the led is lit and put in reverse. They should tilt.

They don’t tilt if you turn off the adjustment button.

The first half of your posting: these are issues that should be covered under warranty and hopefully remedied. I’ve owned luxury vehicles in the past and NONE of them were immune to suffering from either mechanical or electrical problems at some point. The only saving grace was the majority of problems surfaced under warranty.
The second part of your posting: seems you could have saved both you and your wife frustration by simply reading the owner manual(s) and getting a good understanding on how your vehicle operates. It requires some effort on the owner’s part.

Most of those are warranty issues or user error. Should be no cost to fix or figure out.

I'm nearing 3 years on mine and I still like it but it may be my last Hyundai/Genesis for a while. Depends on what they do with the 3rd gen. If they drop the V8 then I'm looking at the XJ or CT6 V8. I typically trade in my car when the warranty is up so that's sometime in 2021. No brainer on the G80 if they still have the V8 though.

Anyone who has time to the read the abridged encyclopedia of automobile inner workings communally known as "owners manuals" has more time on their hands than I, and I'm retired. What I do make time for - if I don't understand how something works, or I think it should work, I break out the owner manuals and try and find the answer. If that doesn't work I call my Genesis service writer, and if that doesn't yield what I would consider a proper response I pose the question on this site where I either have my questions answered or I'm called an idiot, which may or may not apply from time to time depending on the question asked. Good luck Steve, there's always Uber.

I think the OP may not ever be pleased with any new vehicle that has the latest tech. The newer tech in vehicles takes some time to master even after reading the "manuals" which are hundreds of pages.

Lol! It’s clearly a RTFM situation for the OP! And actually, if you have driven almost any current car, working the tilting mirrors on reverse is not rocket science so you don’t even need to RTFM. Or maybe it was just a troll rant? Anyway, it’s moderately entertaining!

Yes they do. Push the left or right adjustment button so the led is lit and put in reverse. They should tilt.

LED is lit. That allows them to retract when you lock the doors. They do not tilt in reverse. Not that it matters, the camera does a better job. Going from memory, I thought the tilt function was a setting in the setup.

I'll have to check it tomorrow. With the cameras I never use them backing.
OK, this is strange. I said I never bothered and did not miss them. I tried it yesterday and they did not tilt. I went out this morning and they did not tilt. I met a friend for coffee and after, backed out of the parking spot and they tilted. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see if it is consistent.

You have two buttons. One for the auto retract and one marked for the left and right adjustment.

If the adjustment is turned on I.e. led is lit for either the left or right side they will tilt in reverse. If you don’t want the tilt you turn them off by double pressing one side left or right so there is no led lit.

In your first quote above it is obvious you were looking at the auto close/retract not the left/right adjustment.

I'll address mainly the cost of windshield replacement and your concerns about how insurers might feel about that. My windshield was replaced for over $3000 Canadian in the U.S. after it was hit by a rock near Disneyworld. My insurer paid without batting an eye and I have been told by my Ontario insurer that windshield comprehensive claims will have no impact on my premium. Maybe you're just unlucky with the other problems you've experienced. My 2015 with the Tech package has cost me nothing other than for oil changes and tire replacement in the over 4 years I've had it. All the sources available say the Genesis has at least average reliability and is recommended by Consumer Reports based on a number of factors including reliability and owner satisfaction. Sorry you're unhappy.
