  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got my car back last night with the Clearshield installed. It is that clear plastic film they apply to the front of the car and mirrors to prevent rock chips and bugs sticking.

Pretty impressed with it. The stuff is laser cut on some kind of machine before it is stuck to the car. Supposedly warranted that if any rock penetrates the stuff and damages the car, they will fix the car and replace the film.

The fronts of all cars these days seem especially fragile to chipping. Think its the new formulations since the late '90s - don't know.

Can you elaborate? Is it covering what portions of the car, if you say hood do you mean the whole thing or just the bottom 1/3, please be specific. Also, how much did this cost, and where did you get this done? Please post some pictures if you get the chance.

Sure.

They covered the fronts of both mirrors, with cut outs for the turn signals.

They covered the leading edge of the hood - probably about 1/4 the way up. That piece flows over the fenders ahead of the wheel wells. The entire front bumper is covered with cutouts for the tow hook port, the sensors, lights and front license plate bracket. Also there were pieces for the bumper trim.

Chrome bits were not covered. I also had them cut pieces for the painted parts of the grill. That was not in the kit, but was cut custom.

Had it all done for $700. Regular price would be above $900. Done by Solar Pros is Waldorf, MD.
