  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone know if the 2015-2016 Genesis sedan with the 9.2" infotainment screen is ever going to get Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? Since it comes standard on all G80s, even with the 9.2" screen, seems like it should be made available on the 2015-2016 model years. Still unbelievable to me that Hyundai released it for the lower trim levels of the Genesis (yes I know they share a common screen with lower-end Hyundais), but kept it away from those of us who paid more.

There are many threads on this subject. It will not be available until the 2018 model year for the 17-speaker Lexicon system, due to technical issues.

Note that the Genesis website now features the 2018 G80 (not just the Sport trim model).

Thanks for the info.

Would a hardware upgrade be needed on the 2015-2016 9.2" set-up? It was my understanding that it didn't have the necessary equipment, but the 8" did.

I am not sure we know for certain. But we do know that Hyundai is not going to retroactively provide it on 2015-2016 (and also 2017 G80). The 2018 G80 has it.

The 8" AVN Systems are up-gradable from 2015 onward.
The 9" DIS (Scroll wheel) systems are NOT and will not be up-gradable for 2015-2017 model years.
2018 DIS systems DO have the necessary platform hardware changes to accommodate the feature, which is standard now for all 2018 Genesis Models - regardless of AVN vs. DIS system.

Here's a bonus question:

Would the 2015-2017 models gain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability if the radio was exchanged for the one added to the 2018 Genesis Models?

Is the 2018 hardware even compatible with the previous years? I'll look online to see if I can find anything...

I also have the same ultimate package and its very dissapointed that people that actually paid more cannot get the upgrade. The least Hyundai can do it to offer their Bluelink service to these owners at substantial discounts!!

What you paid makes no difference. It is incompatibility with the hardware. When it was designed in about 2013 there was no issue as ACP and AA where not a factor and engineers did not know what would be needed in the future. If you bought a top of the line '58 Caddy Brougham, top of the line, it wont work there either.

If the non-DIS models for the same years are compatible, that tells me its not necessarily a hardware compatibility issue but more of a display/control knob issue. The 2017 G80 with a very similar system has that capability.

Hyundai should offer the upgrade with caveats that the system would be slow/will not display in the full screen.

Amazon Alexa is coming out with an Alexa Car module in a few months and I will be installing it to get around this.

From another post -

I just called Genesis/Equus Customer Care and asked about this update I see on MyHyundai as well. You are correct that it is the AA/CarPlay update that is not applicable to DIS systems (yet - more below) due to hardware incompatibilities - hence, why there is no download link. The rep apologized and said it was sent out in error to all Genesis owners.

She also said that this does not mean that AA/CarPlay will not be coming to the DIS system and they are still working with Apple and Android on solutions. I pointed out that the new Korean G80 has CarPlay on the 17 speaker DIS system and she acknowledged that (seemed to be aware that was the case) and said they are working to bring it here too, but making sure there are no bugs.

So, take it for what it's worth, but the door may not be fully closed on this capability for existing Ultimate Owners. I'd encourage anyone interested to contact Hyundai and inquire as the more they hear from interested current owners, the more likely that they will seriously work on this (I'd guess). you can reach them at (877) 378-8727 or (877) EQUUS-27.

.
The display and control knob are hardware.
Have you had your idea work or are you just guessing?

Did the non-ultimate models have the Aha media app before the CarPlay upgrade?
