Sitting in the dash it looks identical, but I don't know if it plugs in and interfaces with the computer the same way. Maybe a tech that works on them would know. Expensive though. So what if I got 2018 Ultimate unit hmmmm....
Hyundai promised us '15 Ultimate owners that we would get Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Hyundai later announced these features would be offered on lower-model trims only but not the Ultimate. Jerks.

I tried to get that, 90% sure it's vaporway. A local audio shop tried to source them but NavTool kept blowing them off to the point where I'm not convinced they actual sell anything.Has anybody heard of or uses some adapter from NAV Tool ?
They have a video saying that any car can use their adapter as long as the head unit has RCA connectors.
Below is the video and the link to the site. If anybody has used this or know if this would work on the Genesis Ultimate, please let me know as this is very tempting, especially since the Ultimate editions will never get Apple Carplay from Hyundai.

Apple maps, while likely to drive you off a cliff, is miles better than any stock nav. Given that you can now use google and waze, you can have your cake and eat it now too.I'm actually a little befuddled by anyone's liking of Apple car play. At least the navigation interface. The Apple maps app is terrible compared to Google maps or Waze imo. I just don't get it? I actually hate it when I get into a rental car and plug in my phone to charge it and Apple car play pops up. This is all just my opinion of course not trying to insult anyone.

Technically speaking I believe there are newer components in the refreshed G80, hence why only the newest cars have it.From another post -
I just called Genesis/Equus Customer Care and asked about this update I see on MyHyundai as well. You are correct that it is the AA/CarPlay update that is not applicable to DIS systems (yet - more below) due to hardware incompatibilities - hence, why there is no download link. The rep apologized and said it was sent out in error to all Genesis owners.
She also said that this does not mean that AA/CarPlay will not be coming to the DIS system and they are still working with Apple and Android on solutions. I pointed out that the new Korean G80 has CarPlay on the 17 speaker DIS system and she acknowledged that (seemed to be aware that was the case) and said they are working to bring it here too, but making sure there are no bugs.
So, take it for what it's worth, but the door may not be fully closed on this capability for existing Ultimate Owners. I'd encourage anyone interested to contact Hyundai and inquire as the more they hear from interested current owners, the more likely that they will seriously work on this (I'd guess). you can reach them at (877) 378-8727 or (877) EQUUS-27.
It may be a cost benefit thing, but we really don't know aside from "hardware incompatibility" Perhaps there is even a hardware adapter possible. Could be sort of like trying to run Windows 10 on your 8088 computer. There's some executive reading a cost benefit report on the benefits of Carplay/Android Auto on CPO/Used Genesis marketability, added brand value showing existing hyundai owners that continued corporate support is a factor when purchasing your next car vs the cost of the R&D and troubleshooting support required when deploying this on a limited quantity sold, discontinued model.
Not exactly sure if the math is on our side but this could be that rare incident when our corporate overloards make the right decision not only because they value our happiness with their product but they have pride in their product being the best they can make it!
