G70 at San Francisco Auto Show

just seems wrong to see the 19" Sport rims with the base sliding calipers. why would they call a trim 'Sport' but not include the actual Sport features?

gotta say, the US market trim combos are a head-scratcher - many of the ~18 of them!

I was looking at G70's on autotrader.ca and saw 2 Prestige demos advertised with the 5 spoke Sport wheels. Bit of a mixed bag - dark wheels with the balance of the trim chrome.

3.3T Prestige and a 70L fuel tank and I'm sold!

I was looking at G70's on autotrader.ca and saw 2 Prestige demos advertised with the 5 spoke Sport wheels. Bit of a mixed bag - dark wheels with the balance of the trim chrome.

^ there is a blue one in Vancouver that was a dealer swap out. none came from the factory like this. my guess is the GXM bent over backwards to close a deal.

Thanks for posting Ed. I live in Sacramento but am south for Thanksgiving in LA. Heading back to Sac Saturday and will hit the SF show Sunday morning. I am very close to pulling the trigger on a Corvette Grand Sport so the show will probably be Genesis's last chance to keep me waiting. I really need to be wowed or my wait is over.

I saw and drove the G70 at the Phoenix Auto Show. I didn't get much of a chance to drive it well since it was just in city streets around the block, but here are my impressions:

- The car looks so unique in person. It's low, and the front grill is aggressive yet luxurious. The effect the shape has on the impression is hard to understand from pictures.

- The front interior is really cozy. The layout just wraps around you, and with the high quality materials it just feels good. It feels almost as luxury as the G90 even with the sporty materials just because of how it wraps around you. It's on the smaller side but just barely big enough to not be considered small. However, my girlfriend has a big ass ( ) and she is not comfortable in the seats with the center console.

- Some small stuff inside feel different than I thought. The gauge cluster has more depth to it than I expected with the screen and the gauge, which was nice. The infotainment screen and the AC knobs were a lot bigger than I expected, so it doesn't feel like a small cheap screen. The metal touch parts like the door handle, aluminum trim, and paddles don't feel as metal as I expected; you can easily think they're plastic, not in that they feel cheap but in that they don't feel very metal.

- You can move the steering wheel out enough to rest your elbows on the door or center armrest and still have hands on the wheel. Yay!

- The head rest is super comfortable. The seats are firm in a sporty way, but comfortable enough. My girlfriend likes comfortable economy cars, and she found the seats a bit uncomfortable.

- The rear leg room isn't as bad as some people made it out to be. I'm 5'8", and if I put myself in a reasonable drive position then there is TONS of leg room. Some people just like putting their seats super far back for some reason, which I found very often at the auto show. However, head room isn't that good. Like I said, I'm 5'8" and if I put my back all the way back, my head was against the roof.

- So for the drive, I drove the 3.3T sport in comfort. For the ride quality, I could feel every little bump through the tires, but it wasn't an uncomfortable feeling because I liked the seats and the ride was still soft. Then again, I was just on city streets so on worse roads it may be a problem. The transmission shifted fast enough for me not to even notice, though I don't drive sporty cars to compare.

Overall, some small things weren't as good as I expected but more of because my expectations were unrealistic. But the overall car as a whole was better than I thought. Everything just comes together so well for a luxurious and unique package. Unfortunately, the car isn't comfortable for my girlfriend, which may be a deal breaker for me since I intended to use this car for road trips. Hopefully the G70 coupe is more front spacious.

Sounds like thr G80 sport or stinger might be the better choice for you

Funny you say that because I already started thinking about those after my thoughts. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the excessive styling and the interior of the Stinger, and the G80 has an outdated interior, but I look forward to the G80 redesign. Though I don't like the design direction of the GV80 and new G90 so I am a bit worried lol. Why couldn't they just stick with the G70 design cues

There's still a good chance the G80 sport will have a more aggressive design, similar to the G70, for the next generation. I think the new G90 and GV80 are more on the 'luxury' side of Genesis' new design, and I wholeheartedly agree - that new style isn't looking very appealing. I never really liked the styling of the G90 to begin with, so I'm not too surprised that I still don't like how the new generation looks so far. But, who knows, the new G80 sport may look pretty awesome.

I don't like the look of the Stinger either. Hopefully they'll tame it down and make it look more grown up for the refresh, whenever that's due.

Either way, I'd be interested to see what you end up going with, even if it's not Hyundai related. Personally, I'm still trying to keep an open mind for alternatives to the G70, even though it's what my heart is set on.

Really curious, why are you cross shopping a Corvette GS with a G70???
