  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Another issue that just came about is when I fill up and go to get back in the car and try and start it it doesn’t want to start. Also idles rough for a few minutes. Any idea? Before I start just shotgunning parts

Only after a fill-up? Are you over filling? I'd check the gas cap and venting system. I'd also stop the pump about the first shut-off it you are not already. Could be the canister is contaminated and not functioning properly.

Yes only after fill up. Every other time it’s fine.

Fuel tank vent may be plugged.

Do you top off?

If you do you have likely vapor locked the vapor canister by getting liquid fuel into it.

If this is the case remove the gas cap and the car will start. You may have to drive or idle for a few minutes with the cap off.

You can avoid this by under filling about 1/2 gallon until you can get the canister replaced.

Never top off there is a reason why they say not to.

If you don’t top off, then use your warranty..... vapor canister is part of the emissions warranty. Should be covered for 8/80

The evaporative system is sensitive and this system can cause issues. I cleaned my canister out with water and a air compressor. Youtube this? The canister has carbon pellets that can get full and dirty of gas vapors. I had to do this because I could not get the engine check light to stay off. My car still dies after the dealership replaced my Engine Comtrol Module. They jacked me. They did not test my evap system correctly, The Evap system is checked by the computer and samples the gas pressure. If there is a leak, the computer signals PO456 Evap leak somewhere. In my case, I think the car dies from this evap leak computer code?

google this if you need to understand the car gas cap, Vent valves
and purge valves need to work correctly or the car can run intermittently in my opinion.

Ever have the fuel tank air filter changed? It is suppose to be changed every 30k miles i think. Also, purge valve as stated above.

I just had this issue fixed under warranty. It was the purge valve and I had a check engine code of P0449; Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit. My symptoms were the car sputtering off while filling with gas, and then hard to start and rough idle for a minute or two.
