  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the Hyundai 2020 Palisade portend towards the first generation Genesis 3 row SUV?

"A few years ago, Hyundai finally launched Genesis as a standalone luxury brand. Today, it has a range of very solid new models, but so far, almost nobody's buying. Why? Because premium shoppers want three letters: S-U-V. It's going to be a while before they can finally get one from Genesis, but until then, this 2020 Hyundai Palisade might do a surprisingly good job of filling in -- if people can look past its everyday badge.

That's because this Palisade can be equipped to levels that feel startlingly premium, with a cabin in upper trims that feels a notch above segment stalwarts like the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Kia Sorento, Nissan Pathfinder, and Toyota Highlander, not to mention newcomers like the Volkswagen Atlas and Subaru Ascent."

The thing is, the Palisade isn't coming out until late summer/early fall of 2019. The same time a Genesis SUV will be coming out. So it's not going to really be filling any void until Genesis comes out with an SUV, because they are going to be coming out about the same time.

I wasn't implying that the Palisade was going to fill the shoes of a Genesis SUV. I am questioning whether this will be the same design platform that the Genesis will ride on?

I saw the GV80 at the New York Auto Show and it not sized like the Palisade. From all the photos and the articles I've read I am likely to buy the Palisade. I bought my Hyundai Genesis in 2009 and have 40,700 miles to date. I was 60 when I purchased that car and have driven very little in the last 5 years, Though my Genesis is in showroom condition and I love it, at age 70 with herniated disks (like most people my age) I feel far more comfortable getting into and out of crossovers. A large 3 row is what I want and the Palisade comes across as a premium vehicle. The GV80 is more the size of the Santa Fe, unless my memory of the car is all wrong.

Right, but the article implies that.

My interpretation of this comment is that the Palisade will be the best that Hyundai has to offer as an upscale 3 row SUV until the Genesis version is introduced. And who's to say at this stage that the Palisade is not the cross-platform for a Genesis?

Genesis is not going to use the Palisade/Telluride platform; they're not going w/ a RWD platform for the GV80 and GV70 and then turn around and use a FWD platform if and when they do a proper 3-row CUV.

That being said, the GV80 (longer than the new X5) should be large enough to fit a 3rd row, even if its more Sorento-sized when it comes to 3rd row space.

As for the GV70, Genesis would be smart to utilize the Stinger's platform instead of the G70's (too small).

Still remains to be seen if Genesis will stick w/ RWD for the GV60 or if they will just follow suit w/ the Germans and the rest of the competition and utilized a cheaper FWD platform for the subcompact class.

The GV80 hasn't been revealed yet. And the NY auto show is in April.

I believe so GV80 will be a close cousin.

There were rumors that Hyundai would release a bigger "GV90" on top of their GV80, which seems more like a mid-sized Crossover.

Of course these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

The Palisade is on display at the Philadelphia Auto Show this week. While, of course, there's no opportunity to drive the vehicle, I can say that this 3 row crossover is definitely upscale. The interior shouts out "PREMIUM" and I would say (though it will never be cross shopped) that it's much more on par with Audi & BMW than with Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander. Not sure if I'll be purchasing a new car in the coming year, but if I do it will definitely be the Palisade.
