  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was behind an A-hole on the interstate after a bad snow here in Virginia with his roof covered in ice. I moved to the left lane thinking I'll be safe here. Fate said no and a huge chunk of ice hit the front of my 2016 G80. Pulled over and it looked okay but it was dusk and the front was filthy. After that I started getting AEB warnings. Washed it today and damn if the grill isn't cracked and the clear plastic I assume that covers the sensor is also cracked a little. It still gives me a warning every now and then. Would the cracks interfere with the sensor operation? How do you access the sensor to clean it. I thought the car wash would clean it but no go. And lastly has anyone replaced the grill or the clear cover?

My car was stopped and hit in the front. Had similar damage and lost the cruise control. Though it did not look too bad, it was enough to not work. In my case though, her insurance covered everything, you would probably have to use your comprehensive and deductible. Alternative is to track down the jerk with the ice as he would be liable. .

Unfortunately it happened where the interstate splits north and south. He sped away. Time to get a traffic camera to record this kind of thing. Out of curiosity I looked at how much the parts might run. The clear plastic that mounts above the license plate is $500 and the grill is $360! Plus labor it’l be $1K.

the jerk probably went home and bragged about how the ice came off his room and made a big mess on the highway. When my car got it, to me it looked like it should be $1500 but it was really $5500.

If out of pocket you may want to consider the junk yard route though I don't think there are loads of them being scrapped. Good luck with the fix.
