Owners that were able to install Apple Carplay with the 8" screen: do you think it's worth me choosing against the Ultimate Package?

Very odd, I tried both iPhone 7/8 and have never been able to get it working. I have a 15 ultimate so I don't think there are any tangible differences unless my firmware is borked. I'll check the FW version and maybe this is something to upgrade for...

Yet another thing my dealer said there was "no support for" unless it was part of the built in car apps. Can you post a screenshot/video of it working on Amazon music wired?

It might be also useful is to check the cable that is being used to connect to the AUX port, one way would be to connect the same cable to a pc and make sure that the PC recognize the iphone using iTunes. I had some generic cables in the past, where they would charge, pass analog audio output, but do not pass any digital data.

If your cable is ok, referring the dealer to the Mulit media manual may also help the case (page 2-30) explicitly refers to iPhone controls / integration etc.

That is how my Ipod work in my ultimate except that it also displays the album cover art when it is connected thru the USB.

The Ultimate system seem to only display artwork for applications that can be used when connecting the device thru the USB connector. Bluetooth only connections do not get album art it seems on our system.

I have tried using the included Aha app, but it is very buggy. It does link up to my Amazon Music account and display album art and provide control similar to Android Auto when it works which is about 40% of the time I try to use it. I just end up using my phone Bluetooth connecting to stream music instead of messing with the Aha app.

I just tried the Aha app and it works without dropping and flaking out. The app did update so maybe the freezing issues have been fixed.
My only issue with Aha besides the freezing is that you have to pick your favorite stations before you use the app in the car. But the Aha app does have many stations including free audio books to choose from so it is not the worst app to use when it actually works.

HAHAHA. Hell, Bluetooth is mainly what I use for mobile music from headphones to my car audio. I used to use only CD's with high bit rates and then only MP4, now I guess I just got accustomed to inferior mobile sound quality due to more selection on the go from streaming services .

Before streaming I used to have to make mixed CD's or digital playlists for my car; now i got too lazy for that since streaming give me more options even if the sound quality is not the best available.

Plug in via USB instead of Bluetooth. 3x the transport quality.

It'll be years before aptX or aptX HD get brought to a car, or be included with a subpar system first.

Definitely! I'm 99% certain the cable is ok as while this particular one was never plugged into a computer, it works just fine in rentals and I get full steering wheel/infotainment controls. It's not a genuine apple cable but it is mfi certified. Will test to make sure it works syncing to iTunes tonight.

HUD is probably the only advantage of the Ultimate package. I have a car imported from the USA, unfortunately it has not updated the Android Auto / CarPlay system. In Europe, the navigation system installed in Genesis does not work. The only solution is Android Auto / CarPlay. I can not download updates from MyHyundai from Europe.
If I install Android Auto / CarPlay in every car I will have the same system. I am sorry for my English but I write with the help of a translator google

Not sure if it's kosher to double post but I figure I'd share this separately. After my replacement, I'm now able to skip tracks on my iPhone when plugged in via USB. It's amazing the kind of BS you have to go through to make the dealer admit there's an issue, but I got there at the end and it's been fixed. Thanks to everyone who made me aware of what was wrong. (esep @Suburbazine with the video )

I’m shopping for a 2015 and I’m pretty sure I want to get a 5.0 non-ultimate because (a) I don’t care about most of the Ultimate features and (b) I love having Waze and Audible app on the screen while I drive. Although I do wish I could have the bigger, clearer screen. Anyway, I can’t find any videos of an upgraded 2015 with CarPlay, and I just want to be sure that the performance is decent on hardware from that era.

I did find this video of a 2015 Sonata with CarPlay. Safe to assume that it’s the same underlying system as a 2015 genesis?
