I'm curious to hear who Hyundai is "stealing" sales from with the Genesis.

As for me, my top 3 contenders before deciding on the Genesis were:

-2009 Nissan Maxima (nice, but too cramped for my needs/wants)
-2008 Infiniti M35 (nice, but a bit pricey)
-2008 Pontiac G8 GT (lacking in terms of feature content, too thirsty [V8], too underpowered [V6])

I think I may go with Genesis, but the vehicles I'm considering are

BMW 335i
Audi A4
Infiniti G35

I started out wanting to replace my pick-up truck with a Crossover so I am not exactly the target demographic. I looked at...
Ford Edge
Mazda CX-7 & CX-9
Chevy Malibu
I can get X-Plan/S-Plan pricing on the Fords but for one reason or another I was not ready to pull the trigger.

*Newsflash* My new Genesis has arrived at the dealership and I get to take delivery this afternoon.

Anxiously awaiting a new "I just got my new Genesis" discussion. :p

As for me - it's really up to my wife whatever she wants next. She's difficult to figure when it comes to cars. She's been liking Audi's a lot lately. So the Audi A6 is probably on the list.. Possibly a BMW 5-Series and/or a Cadillac CTS...

Mercedes E 550, M45, Jaguar XF, A6, RL. The Jaguar XF could possibly still be in the picture but because it is also so new the dealers are sticking close to MRSP about $52,000. Also still worried about Jaguar reliability and quality. We will see where it stands once the V8 Genesis arrives.

I normally don't buy new cars so I'm a little different. I'm deciding between the Genesis and two used cars. The two used cars are the M35/45 and the Lexus GS 300/350/4??.

I plan to get the Genesis but I'm really getting the itch. I need to see some V8's soon or I'll be driving a used car!

In my search I have investigated and driven:

Lexus ES 350
Infiniti M35
Audi A6

The Infiniti dealer gave me great pricing on the M35, but I didn't like the drive so much.

I just got back from my second test drive of the Genesis. After driving the Genesis, I went to the Audi dealer and drove an A6. The A6 is a great looking car and has a nice drive, but the drive is no better than the Genesis, and not near as quiet. Here is a comparison of the two as I saw it today:

Genesis MSRP with Tech: $40,000
Audi A6 Quattro MSRP with Premium Package and NAV system: $53,495
Genesis Engine: 3.8 V6
Audi A6 Engine: 3.2 V6
Some Genesis features I like: Backup camera, parking sensors, proximity key, rain sensing windshield wipers, quiet cabin, regular fuel.
Notable Audi A6 features: AWD. That's it. The A6 for 53K did not have cooled seats, backup camera, parking sensors, push button start, automatic windshield wipers, and requires premium fuel.

My test drive for both vehicles was on city streets and Interstate, but I truly couldn't see or feel anything superior in the handling and drive of the A6. The Genesis truly is feature-rich for its price -- even at MSRP -- when compared with the competition.

I think I made up my mind on the Genesis today. The problem is, the biggest dealer here (Richmond, VA) has only one Tech package, and it is the Sterling blue (light blue) with tan interior (it was very nice looking actually, but I'm looking for black on black, or the dark blue and black).

I'm convinced that to get a similar vehicle in size, quality, and features, you are probably going to pay alot more. That really stood out to me today with the A6.

Coug,

I enjoyed your "wheel-to-wheel" demo.

I always ask what price premium has a preferred brand earned?

Hyundai's challenge is getting more active shoppers to test-drive a Genesis. I am sure if they did they would reach the same conclusions you did!

Well, as a fan of Audi's(I almost bought fully loaded A3, I know, the cheapest, but I decided to go with the car I wanted for so long, later), there is another thing that Audi has over Genesis, well in my opinion that is. German build quality, prestige, resale value and longevity. I know Hyundai is up there now in terms of quality, but I still prefer the German technology(if I have money) over anything comming out from Japan or Korea. I know, I maybe the only one.

As a 'landbarge' driver for many years, I have probably had 7-9 Lincoln Towncars with a few sport cars thrown in, I was seriously considering the Lincoln MKS. NO MORE!

Will be driving a Genesis V8 when an aggressive dealer finds me one as they become available. Have talked to three dealers and only one has pre-ordered a V8.

Well, in terms of style and origin, I would rather(again, if I can afford it) go with the MKS. I still have something going for Made in America. I don't know, I may be the only one in this board, but.... Even with the fact that MKS haven't had that good of a review, unlike Genesis did. I think I should have some free time sometime next week, so I may even go back to the Hyundai dealer and test out the interior(well, not going to drive it, since I am not going to get it), and Kia's Borrego(which is nearer than Hyundai dealer for me) and posibly post my final thoughts about the car, but since they raise the price, although not much, I think they will suffer a bit in selling the Genesis, but I don't know....

But, I do hope the Hyundai to have luck to continue sell the Genesis steadly even with the up-ed price.

What German technology specifically do you speak of?

Quattro? Turbo-charged 4-cylinder engines?

As a two-time VW owner I can't say I'll ever return to VW/Audi. They look great, but are plagued with problems and resale on most higher end Audi's isn't so great (e.g. A6 & A8). As for build quality/longevity, only time will tell. The rubberized finish on the interior trim on both of my VW's started peeling after a couple years. I've heard similar stories on many Audi message boards (along w/ cracked dash boards, numerous rattles, broken window regulators, premature headlight failure, etc.). I will say that no one designs interiors quite as well as Audi. Their use of colors and textures is world-class and, generally speaking, their interiors just look/feel "special". They aren't as durable as BMW or MB interiors though, based on my experience.

I test drove a bunch of cars when comparing to the Genesis:

1) BMW 535i
Loved the sporty suspension, strong engine, great brakes, and precise steering. Hated the costly options and higher overall price, smaller back seat.

2) Infiniti M35
Harsher suspension compared with Genesis, strong engine, nice technology mix, but still more expensive and felt like smaller interior.

3) Audi A6 3.2
Similar ride to Genesis but felt more solid build quality. Unimpressive technology mix and more costly overall with similar options. I did love that huge trunk.

4) Mercedes E350
Car felt solid as a tank, very safe feeling. Steering felt numb, technology unimpressive, acceleration felt flat, and costly options.

5) Cadilac CTS
Quick car, solid brakes. Didn't like the ergonomics and smaller interior.

6) Lexus ES 350
Was bored to death test driving this car. Numb steering, very isolating suspension (classic Lexus), mushy brakes, couldn't feel engine torque with acceleration. Great ergonomics, excellent fit and finish, much better quality leather seats. But more expensive with similar options, smaller back seat space.

Excellent comparisons, everyone! Keep 'em coming! :)

I finally took the plunge and ordered a V-8 with the Tech package this morning. Red with the Beige interior. My price is $1,000 under MSRP ( I also have a coupon from my Discovery Drive). My current lease matures in November.
On the way to my decision, I thoroughly looked at the Cadillac CTS, the BMW 5 series, the Honda Accord, the Lexus ES and the Nissan Maxima. After driving the Genesis...I was hooked.
The Genesis will replace an Infiniti M35x.

Keep up all the info..I check this site often!

Thank you Charles! And congratulations! About how long until delivery?

Those are some pretty nice cars you checked out beforehand! It's so impressive that you ended-up going with the Hyundai Genesis.. That really says a lot for Hyundai!

I have to agree. I had a VW Quantum- great car-blast to drive- but over 36 dealer repairs under warranty. Mercedes E class also a great car -but so expensive to own and operate. For example most people do not realize the V8s uses 12 quarts of oil vs. typical 5.5 quarts and require a special Mercedes cartridge filter insert vs disposable filter. Each oil change was at least $92.00.DIY and $120 at dealer/station. Or, replace those 4" headlight wiper blades each at $28 every year or the $548 to replace the technological marvel of heated window wiper fluid element. $1400 tune up every 30,000 miles. Brake rotors designed to be replaced every 15000 miles and brake sensors that rarely lasted more than 7500 at $28 a pop and 4 on each wheel. Super spark progressive rotors on each cyclinder head at $258 per pop plus labor.
In all the years we have had Lexus vehicles (3)not a single warranty issue, The RX300 has almost 150,000 miles and has never been in for service other than a replacement bulb at 122,000 miles out of warranty that they did not charge for because I am a "good customer".Throw in the free car wash for a service visit you did not even pay for on an out of warranty part and you get to understand the "lexus customer service" appeal vs. any german car maker.

In my case, Hyundai stole a repeat sale from BMW. As I've pointed out in other threads, comparing a 5-series and Genesis is a bit of an apples-and-oranges thing -- the two models are not really targeting the same customer (well, perhaps the 7-series crowd overlaps a bit, but not a sport pkg 5er with a clutch). Ultimately, the extraordinary value of what Hyundai has packaged into the Genesis made my choice for me.

If I were to be methodical about comparing Genesis to it's peer group, I would have driven the best of Japan (Infiniti, Lexus, Acura), but I felt comfortable skipping that step given the price differentials. Besides, my Korean-born son is thrilled with my choice, as we're now an "All Hyundai" family (my wife drives a Sante Fe).

That said, I'll need a couple of months and a few thousand miles to truly evaluate the pros and cons of Genesis, but I'm optimistic! And the extra warranty I purchased -- 100K/10yr bumper/bumper -- buys a lot of piece of mind, too, particularly for a brand-new model, which I'd normally avoid for at least a year.

Cadillac CTS4 - My second choice, Very nice. Best Nav w/hard drive, Mid Size interior, Great Car!

Chevy Malibu LTZ - Great for the lower price, Too boring with less bells and whistles.

BMW 335xi - Very nice but too expensive as equipped and too small interior room.

Toyota Avalon Limited - Genesis blew this one out of the water.
