If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everybody, I am looking at a Black Genesis 5.0 Ultimate 2015 with 73k miles on it. It is one owner and no accident. It has all the services done in a same Hyundai dealership. The asking price is $18,500.
Is it a good Deal? If it is a good deal what should I look for in terms on known issues with this model?
I would really appreciate any thoughts and information.
Thanks a million.

It's only a really good deal if they throw an extended warranty in for less than $2000

Being out of warranty things get more expensive to fix and you could have any number of minor issues that would be expensive to fix without a warranty. Electrical gremlins, mechanical issues that have been postponed because it's out of warranty, etc.

The bigger issues seem to be electrical issues in the steering column, driveline balance issues and defective harmonic balancers.

I think that it is a very good deal. Agree that extended Warranty is important....and if they do give you an extended warranty, even if for say $3K, even then imho this is a good deal

Thanks for the reply.
Are electrical issues in the steering column, driveline balance issues and defective harmonic balancers very common?
What about 3.8 Tech package? Are they more reliable?

Some of the bigger issues to look for:
  1. Fluttering / Vibrating noise @ 25-35mph, most audible near center console after cold start. Requires a new propeller shaft assembly ($1,000 + labor)
  2. Broken or rattling sunroof. Make sure it fully opens and closes without any noise or hesitation, check for creaks and rattles while driving. Probably costs ~$2,000 to replace.
  3. Broken head units or replacements that weren't programmed properly. Look for duplicate guidelines on the backup camera and make sure the various inputs work (Bluetooth, aux, satellite, USB). Replacements cost $3,000+
There are also some little things like broken power mirrors or failing seat heaters. Can't remember everything off the top of my head...

(Like Kon said, make sure to check the sunroof operates properly. I bought my '15 from a dealer out of state knowing the sunroof had an issue and I'd have my local dealer fix it. I had it for a month when it went in the shop. Three months later I got my car back. They replaced the whole sunroof unit (covered under warranty) and found the windshield that was installed did not meet factory specs and I had to purchase a new one (not covered under warranty). The windshield must have been replaces before with a cheap one because the tech showed me how the glue was just pealing off the windshield like Elmer's glue. We'll save that for another thread but if the sunroof doesn't open or like mine, close on its own, know that it will need replacing. Besides that, I love my '15 Gen Ultimate. Good luck!!

wow.
Guess I have been lucky; i have the base version of the 2015 5.0 and have put 40K miles on it. So far so good . Thanks

Wow, You scared me! It seems that I am getting myself to lots of potential troubles...

Every manufacturer has issues. No one is immune. Though my 2015 (39k mi.) did have an electrical freakout once (possibly flood related), no propshaft, head unit or sunroof troubles (yet). My wife had a 2007 Santa Fe that went over 100k miles with needing nothing more than brake pads and a set of tires.

Not trying to scare you but just be aware, like with any major purchase, of any problems. I knew it was an issue when I bought it but I wish it was handled better from my local Hyundai dealer. If it looks and sounds good, then it might be worth getting. I love my Genesis and I'm happy that I bought it.

I understand that. I drive a 2009 V8 Genesis with 110k on it. I just do the maintenance. It's amazing to drive and very reliable.
I have never had any major issues with it. I want to get another Genesis because I really love my current one. But it's aging. I can probably drive my current one for a few more years without problems. The reason that I want to get the ultimate one is new safety features. If the car is not reliable like my old one I would pass on it!

Hi everyone,
I am looking on different car ads and I am confused!
Does the technology trim come with adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist?
I see some adds advertised with Technology package but it does not have the adaptive cruise control button on the steering wheel. It just has a return icon instead? Could you please clarify this for me?
Thanks,

All 2015 v8 5.0s come with it in the US.
If 3.8, then there are different trim levels. Google the different packages...i do not recall specifics, but ultimate has everything, others i am not sure. Best

I’m assuming that’s US $. I’d say that’s a fantastic deal for the Ultimate. Keep us posted.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I just picked up an ultimate 5.0 in the Portland Oregon area Wednesday for $24,500. 2015 w/ 36K miles, also black on black, and there is another down the street from the one I got for about the same price (black on black too). Given the mileage your seems like a good price.

IMHO I think that is an excellent price.
I have owned 4 genesis and propably will buy another one when the time comes, I bought bumper to bumper extended warranty with each one as these have been reliable, safe, comfortable but are expensive vehicles to repair once they go out of warranty.

Seems high to me for the mileage, you'd be much better off to find one from a private party IMO.

I agree that is a good price

Hi, I went to see and test drive the car today. The car is for sale at a Hyundai dealership.
Thanks everyone for the comments. I tried to check every thing including sunroof, head unit and propeller shaft assembly.
Sunroof had hard time closing!!! They told me they will fix it under the warranty.
I am the new proud owner of the 5.0 Genesis.
I bought 4 years bumper to bumper extended warranty too.
They are going to get the car and finance ready next week.
I am really excited for my new ride.
