  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Most oil change shops use their own oil filter, should I start buying the oem filter for oil changes or just let my car run with theirs? Will it save my car in the future? Currently at 100,500 and car still runs silky 😉

IMO Stay away from the quick oil change shops (Quick Lube, Jiffy Lube, etc.) There are many horror stories from these places; filters never changed, leaving filter out, wrong filters, wrong oil but charges for synthetic stripped drain plugs broken filter housings, bottom engine covers left loose and missing screws. Atlanta tv stations have done several hidden camera investigations where corners were cut at many oil change shops. And just because you take your filter to them does not mean it will be used unless you stand watching every move. Also you have no idea of what oil they actually is pour into the car. The employees at these places usually have very little training.

So just go to a Hyundai dealership?

Yes. I did this just last week. 7qts of oil + OEM filter for $34.95 ($5 discount). Even at $39.95, that is an absolute deal anywhere, much less the dealership.

Not necessarily but do go to a local shop that has trained techs and has a good reputation in your area. In the Genesis only OEM oil filters should be used. There are many forum threads on this and Hyundai issued a TSB regarding engine knocking and possible engine damage when some aftermarket oil filters are used.

Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe it’s time to learn to change my own oil lol

I do change my oil myself. I find it satisfying knowing exactly what oil and filter I'm getting. Just put in Mobil 1 oil filters that guarantee 15,000 miles in on the car...and of course, I use Mobil 1 oil.

So how often do you change your oil

Well, I just moved out to the country and have a much longer drive to work. But I did once a year. I'd only put on about 8k miles a year. Also, driving a '01 Deville, it leaked oil, so I was always putting new oil in, so I wasn't worried about it. I'll probably just wait until Fall before I change oil. I obviously documented the miles so I'll know if I do need to change it sooner.

I'm lucky to manage at a car wash company that has oil change centers as well so I usually will bring them 7 quarts of oil and a filter and just pay them to change it since I cant work on my car in my condo complex due to HOA rules or I'd do them myself. I began using full synthetic at 21k miles so I continue with full synthetic and though it lasts up to 5k before needing a change, I drive my baby hard so for peace of mind and because I just like to take great care of my vehicle, I still change it at 3,000 mile intervals regardless. My lube center gives me an employee discount and since I'm manager status of the wash, they hook me up with 35% off. My last oil change and filter I had them do their in house Mobil 1 full synth with extended performance filter and it was $70 out the door. Can't beat that.

Also I am able to watch them do it if I want, but they know me so I can trust them to not screw me. I'm close with the area manager too so if they did, they'd be in trouble.

What oil are you using? How many miles on your vehicle?
