  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've searched for hours and can't find anyone with the same issue. 2016 genesis trunk wont open. It's not the valet button, I tried the key hole on trunk. The car beeps, the lights flash, you hear a click but trunk wont open. I tried the emergency latch with a pole through the rear seats as well. I jumped on trunk as well while having someone push the trunk button. Nothing will open it.

My next attempt is to remove rear seats so I can crawl in the trunk with wd40 and a screw driver.

That's a weird one. Does the key method feel like it's moving the mechanism? Did you try jerking up hard?

If you're lucky enough to get into the trunk via the back seat, hopefully you can get it loose via the screwdriver. I'd have someone turn the key while you pry the latch.

If that doesn't work and you have to resort to removing the mechanism, don't bother trying to remove the liner. Too many items can be damaged. The arm covers, mechanism cover and switch are in the way. You'd be better off cutting a good sized hole in the liner around the mechanism and then repairing the liner from the back side later.

Good luck on this. Let us know how it works out.

The key does not feel like it's moving any mechanism. It just turn with very slight tension.

I removed rear seats (not easy for a first timer)

I got to latch but can't do anything to pry it open. As you said linear is too difficult to remove. The car is a lease and going back in 2 months so I prefer not damaging the linear. Do you happen to know which way the latch turns when you are facing latch from inside trunk?

Updated

I made 3 cuts in the linear and lifted. Unscrewed latch mechanism, unplugged wires. Lifted trunk and then spent an hour figuring out how to unhook the latch. See attached image. The piece that pushes this guy down had broken off. You need push this down all the way while pulling the entire latch/trunk up to unlatch.

Good to hear you got the trunk open. What a hassle. Do you mind posting a couple more pics of the broken part of the latch? Hard to see exactly what broke. I assume that part of it is plastic?

Some poor engineering/manf on these parts. I received my car with a dead batt and for some reason it wouldn't jump start. I (dumbass, big hurry) didn't realize the keyfob had a 'key' and tried to open the trunk with a broom handle. Got the trunk open but broke the little plastic lever in the hole. Ain't no kidnap victims gettin' out of my trunk.
