  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everybody,

I was very curious to know what is the top speed of my car. I finally got a chance to test it. I could reach 234km (145 miles). Despite of having the rpm at 5400 at that speed I couldn’t increase the speed more! What is your top speed?

I personally was only able to reach 130mph on a long clear stretch of highway before I started to come up on traffic and slowed down.

There was a good spot on the state line where I could easily hit triple digits, but not long enough for much more. Top was 125. Before increasing speed I had to be sure the CT police were not at the start, then had to slow before cresting the hill where the MA police often sat.

140mph so far, but it was on factory all season tires. Now, that I have my summer set of Michelin PS4s on, I'll drive to Mexico and see if I can hit 160 or whatever, lol
Actually, it'll have to wait....I'm taking 2 weeks off. It's time to go see some jets flying thru the Rainbow Canyon in Death Valley ;)

WOW! It seems that you drive a newer model. What year and engine does your Genny have?

All you guys are driving the wrong cars, try Porsche's, Mercedes AMG, or BMW M cars instead they are designed for that speed. As a grown up did you ever consider what would happen if you blow a tire?

Better make sure you have a gas station about 25 miles ahead as you were burning 5.3 MPG. Looks like you may have 5 gallons in the tank.

With my 3.8L v6 2015 model in Dubai, I reached 249 kmph, equivalent to 155 miles per hour. Of course, different factors come to play here such as road conditions, outside temperature, tyres, driving conditions etc. I only attempted that once.

I agree that some us may have pushed the limits some, but After my ‘Oh deer’ moment with the R-spec and and someone rear hitting me at high speed in a storm while we where in the 2009 4.6, IMHO the all around 5 star all round safety ratings are as good as it gets, in some cases are higher than some the formentioned vehicles.
That was one of the reason I got another two Gennys 🍻

It is not just car but the tire that make high speed driving safe or not. Most modern late model cars like our Genesis have suspension and brake setups that are superior to some of the earlier (1990-early 2000) performance cars you mentioned which surpassed the claimed top speeds posted in this thread on older technology just fine.

The stock tires on the Genesis are rated for over 130mph and most aftermarket performance tires are rated for much higher speeds than our cars can obtain, so blow outs should not an issue with tires in working order without defects.

My Falken FK510 tires are rated for over 168 mph so the 130 mph I reach is not pushing them to the limit.

With that being said, I personally would only drive very high speeds on a straight road with no traffic near by. High speed cornering maneuvers should only be attempted on a track.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I've owned 5.0 and 3.3T both.
5.0 : 153mph
3.3T : 157mph (on a downhill)

I am sure I could've gone faster by a mile or two, but not by much.

My Genesis is for comfortable driving, sit back and cruise. I actually don't go high speeds in 4 wheeled vehicles anymore, unless I was in a full out sports coupe.

If I wanted a high speed, high stress drive, I'd hop on my superbike and hit the highway at over 300kph (186mph). Now that is flying.

In England all motor cycle riders are required to wear body suits with steel mesh, even then, having seen one or two bike accidents, personally I preferred not to get picked up as a bag full of jelly, at least for any adrenaline induced speed.
However, I admire all the other people that are able to enjoy that thrill.

Actually they are not required to wear suits in the UK but it is strongly suggested that appropriate clothing, footwear and eyewear are worn. Only helmets are required.

Do you have to wear proper motorcycle gear?

There is something to be said about motorcycle ownership. I have three lol, but I'm selling my supersport.

Please note, that I did not mentioned the word ‘law’, but perhaps I should have been more descriptive in my comment.
At least when I left almost 20 years ago, if someone has a bike accident and they where not wearing ‘protective gear’? their insurance claim can be limited or in rare cases denied altogether. The insurance companies pretty much insisted these items to be used, as part of lowering the premium trick, at least in and all around London.
Sooo, ‘protective clothing’ was ticked, the ‘rider’ was not wearing those items when the accident happened = insurance claim denied (depending on circumstances)

From the posted article:
“some or all of your injuries could have been avoided through wearing proper kit, your claim for damages could be reduced by up to 25%.”

So you agree that your post was incorrect, they are not required. Thanks. ;)

Not going down that rabbit hole, so thank you for your observations. You may take my post in whichever context you wish to understand it, that will make you happy🍻
