  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi anyone has some pictures of the manual transmission or some details?

It feels really rubbery and I'm trying to see what can be done to make it better. Perhaps changing some bushing or the transmission mount like in the Genesis Coupe. I can't find the diagrams anywhere.

Does Hyundai has a software like ETKA to check the parts numbers etc?

Thank you,

Why fool around with it? If you think there is a problem with it, take it to the dealer and have them service it. That is what a warranty is for especially with such a new vehicle.

This is not a defect. This is by design. The Genesis Coupe had the same issue. Other people having a manual transmission have noticed that too.

Gotcha, I was reading it as if there was a problem with it. You may want to get it checked anyway since in another thread you mentioned you had to use force to get it into reverse, that just doesn't seem right to me. There are a few on here with the MT and hopefully they chime in. Good Luck.

No problem. The reverse is fine. I'm getting to know the transmission now and I believe it's not a bad one. But for some reason, I feel it could be much better.

Understandable. There has got to be some shift stabilizer bushings you can replace to help it out. But, since it's so new, I bet those are only found in Korea for right now... Unless the tranny and shifter are the same from the Genesis Coupe (my guess is they are very similar, if not identical).

I believe the tranny is the same as the Genesis Coupe. Not sure tho.

I almost wonder if it's worth trying out a kit designed for the Genesis Coupe to see if it fits.

^ i spoke at length with a Genesis rep who assured me the 6MT in the G70 is a heavily worked over corporate box, with many revisions from previous applications. they were making adjustments up until mid-year 2018 which is partly why the 6MT had a late delivery. in CAD, G70's with AT's were available in the spring. 6MT delivery started in late summer.

i've driven the Gen coupe, and the G70 is indeed far better in terms of feel and actuation.

my main gripe has been the occasional accidental reverse engagement instead of first. it took me a week or two to get used to selecting reverse, but even now i have the occasional brain fart.

i took a bunch of shots of the underside a while back, but this is the only one that shows part of the gearbox. the tray had been re-installed so the box is obscured.

Thank you friend. Do you have the same issue going from first to second? I feel that over 6000 RPM, the second is hard to get in. The Genesis Coupe has the exact same thing. Hard to drive sporty. I also feel that there is a dip from second to third. Very weird and a shame. The transmission is good but the long throw and the shifting itself need work. I'm planning to install a short shifting kit and an aftermarket knob. Honestly, I appreciate Hyundai offering a manual transmission but this could be much better.

Look at the Veloster N. The tranny is amazing.

Just test drove the G70 M/T and I have the same thoughts. Reminded me of my old Genesis Coupe 2.0t. The Shifting feel is just not great in the car. Springy and rubbery feel. Almost like it's loose. Wish it could be tightened up.

Coming from an M235i it leaves a lot to be desired. Even the Ford Fiesta ST I owned for a while had a better transmission feel. That said, I'm still happy they chose to offer an M/T option in the car. I will pick it up if I can get the deal I want.

Edit: one other comment here. The rev hang is pretty awful too. I'm sure you all have noticed as well.

Is it anything like the Veloster N 6MT?

The car has a dual-mass flywheel. That's the reason the clutch feels weird. The only way to remedy to this is to change it to a solid flywheel. Something I plan to do. I'm also going to the dealer tomorrow to see if there is any ECU update to remedy this annoying rev-hang.
