Shoukd trunk open all the way?

I just got my 2015 3.8 Signature a few weeks back and was wondering if the trunk should open fully after I pop it from the fob remote? It doesnt have the auto close option.

Most of the manual trunks only pop up a few inches. I've seen a few that swing fully open but those seem to be anomalous or problematic because they bounce on the hinge limits.

2016 Ultimate here, yes mine opens fully when using either the fob or button on the dashboard.

Yes, no, sort of.

It will open from the fob but not close
It will open from the dash button with a touch, but to close you have to hold the button until it locks
From the outside, there are two buttons on the lid. One button will close it with just a touch.
The second button will close it and also lock all the doors as long as the fob is in range.

The Ultimate ONLY closes with a button. Closing it manually will break it.

Yep,I’ve only ever used the lock option with the button on the truck lid ,very handy locking all doors while closing the trunk, and no, do not attempt to close trunk on the Ultimate manually it doesn’t like it,and be sure to warn anyone loading groceries etc. to not attempt it.

Yes, on the Ultimate, of course.

there is a class action lawsuit that was filed for the so called "smart trunk" feature where it was advertised as opening all the way but most of the time it doesn't. its apparently been settled so there maybe some compensation coming.

Intermittent sometimes. Also, spring has mind of its own. Sometimes pops all the way up, other times just a smidge.

My 2016 pops open but just a little..Not even an inch sometimes.
Wish it would open further especially if your hands are full.
I always have to nudge it to fully open position.
Should I ask my dealer if it's normal?

I have the '15, 3.8 with the smart trunk that only ever opens about less than inch as well. Took the car into the dealer and was told that the trunk is operating as intended. Kinda bummed after that.

found these two advertisement videos of the how the smart trunk is "suppose" to work.

This one is of Sonata with the smart trunk that actually works. Kinda strange how the Genny is supposedly the higher end model and it doesn't work like this.

I would think it is just a matter of the right spring or torsion bar to get it to raise higher. The other answer is the power trunk as on the Ultimate.

Yes it should, on my 2015 5.0 the dealer is replacing the trunk struts after they verified on a new one it does indeed opens all the way up byitself.
IMHO, They should fix it you a have a warranty, and be prisistent.

Does your Genny have the power trunk w/ smart ? Or just smart.

Op is not talking about the smart trunk. He is talking about the base manual trunk. And as stated most manual trunks only pop up slightly to the load level of the hinge.


There are mods you can do to get it to pop fully, On a Camry for example you can install some high strength strings to the pulls arms and it will fully open.
