  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’ve used my gos 7 times now. Five of those times I knew where I was going and the gps steered me wrong. Twice I didn’t know where I was going and the gps got me so lost I had to stop and ask for directions. Is there a simple setting that I can use to tell it to use highways and major streets for as long as possible before taking side streets? Is there some sort of a reset or update there I should get done?

Canada or US or? The G70 should be reasonably up to date.

Where is steered you wrong, would it not get you there? The navigation systems often take a route different than the one I would take, but it never failed to get me to the destination.

In the setup, most allow you to chose things like "avoid toll roads" you can choose shortest and fastest so do go check the settings.
In the cases where you did not know where you were going why did you not follow it? Would it have taken you to a wrong location? I'm skeptical. I've used both portables like Garmin and built in in the last four cars in the USA, Canada, and parts of Europe. To be wrong 7 out of 7 seems a bit much.

Give paper maps to 10 people and have them plan a route for a 500 mile trip. Chances are you will get 7 variations. Not wrong, just different. I often used different routes at different times of the day to avoid known traffic situations but the computer generated route is the same every time.

If I know my route I don't use the GPS, I've realized that 8 out of 10 times it will choose a different way that the one I'll choose. If you don't know how to get to your destination, engage the GPS and follow its commands blindly, 99% of the time it will get you to your destination.

Actually...twice now the GPS has led me to the wrong destination. Close...but off by a street.

It led me to the right spot...but like behind the building in a residential area...pissed me off.

Not like it’s a new area either.

Something is wack.

Use Waze or Google maps. Any GPS can steer you wrong on occasion, but those two apps are going to be better at updating and routing than any built-in nav on the G70 or any other car. Plus Waze shows road hazards, crowd-sourced traffic, speed traps, etc.

FYI...G70 Nav is based on Google. So really...nothing is truly spot on.

With that said...Google was correct...so something is off.

Google might be the engine...but the final implementation is off.

Google maps does not update that well. My street has existed for over 18 months and still does not show. Not that anyone else is any better.

Waze picks up stuff like that. In fact, you are allowed to edit the Waze map for exactly that kind of circumstance. Does your street show up in Waze?

Part of that has to do with the car coming down the road and noticing your street exists and part of it has to do with someone reporting the street to Google (as you would with a new business)

Nope, the Waze map is pretty much identical to the Google map as I'd expect.

Actually, Hyundai/Genesis NAV is not based on Google: It uses a Google Search feature to find locations which is WAY better than the NAV itself - but the routing and mapping is not Google MAPS based/Google powered!.

Waze is integrated into Google Maps (in a less aggressive manner)

Not my experience. For example, there is a new development right near my house that is not even fully built yet. Waze has all the roads in the new development and each road has a street name. Google Maps does not have all of the roads and only the main one leading in to the development has a street name.

I've found that (as verified in this current example) that the maps in Google MAPS and Waze do not fully match. Further, I almost always find that Waze is more current - likely due to the map editing features available to some users!

Exact same thing happened to me the other day.

Good to know I'm not the only one.

Take it downtown NYC. I think I've driven through most of the buildings there.

This is correct. I'm pretty sure the data is provided by HERE, which is now essentially owned by Audi, BMW, and Mercedes (plus a few others with smaller ownership shares).

I agree there is a bug in the programming. If it sees that the road behind a building is closer to the address than the parking in front, it will not take you to the right spot to walk to your destination.
