  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have had a 2009 4.6 since early 2011. I have a car and a pickup and both sit at home, the office, or at the airport most of the time - I just passed 80k on my current Genesis - think it had about 20k when I got it!

But...it's time for an upgrade. After reviewing all performance sedans out there, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get another Genesis - probably a G80 Sport or 3.3/5.0 Ultimate. I want slightly used or a killer deal on a new one when the new model years are available. I actually just missed out on a (still) new 2018 G80 Sport that got sold day before I saw it. That car was discounted to 47k.

So, I'm wondering if anyone can share experience with the following:

1) when should the 2020 models be in US?
2) what were Genesis discounts/incentives like in 2018 on 2018 vehicles when the 2019s were available?
3) For anyone that bought a 2017 in 2018 when the new 2020 model were available - was there a significant decrease in the used 2017 value with the availability of a new model year?

I know when considering a trade it can be fuzzy math, but I got my expected KBB trade value for my caddy and 10 Grand off the MSRP of My 18' G80 Sport awd, it was a "service loaner" and was being driven by the GM of the dealership at the time, had 1,600 miles on it. Deal happened September 15th 2018. It was the last Genesis that particular Hyundai dealer had and they had no plans of being a dedicated Genesis dealer. I've been a big fan of buying non-current/left over stock, takes the sting out of the initial depreciation and always shows low miles for that model year while in my stable. Late fall/to spring is the best time for outgoing cars and motorcycles, spring and summer is a good time for snowmobiles. Good Luck.

thanks. what Cadillac did you have and what were your thoughts? I get them as rentals frequently and they are ok - also considered a CTS V-sport (turbo6, not the V8) model but they are very hard to come by

I had a 14" XTS Luxury 3.6(304hp) fwd, purchased Feb 2015 new left over(30%off). Beautiful car, filled with pride as I bought it right after I retired. I loved driving that car, but unfortunately I put alot of miles on it to and fro the dealer. The most problematic Vehicle of any that I have ever owned.

You may want to give TrueCar a try for price. I got three offers and went to a dealer I used in the past. He gave me a price and I told him what TreuCar offered. He showed the email on my phone to the manager and the deal was done. Fast and easy, $6500 off sticker.

somewhat afraid if I register that I'll b inundated with texts, calls, etc. since consent for those are required...

That hasn't been announced but most guess it will be in the Sept-Nov. timeframe.

Given the stop shipment that came early last year and the dealer network rollout, it really is not worth looking at last year to try and predict this year. Most reported little to no discounts and that was many times on manager/demo cars. In a normal year, I would think you would probably see a little more discounting that you see now.
With Circle A pricing and the current incentives, you can get a nice discount right now. What model/trim are you interested in?

I have embedded my answers in bold above.

Looking for a G80 Sport, white with ideally the gray/black combo interior, though that is tough to find. There isn't much difference between a lightly used 2018 and a lightly used 2019 right now; new ones can be had for about 53 just doing a quick autotrader search. Ideally, I'm hoping to score a new or lightly used 2019 with a later in-service date for about 47.5k

You will probably have to go used, perhaps a little more than lightly, in order to get down to that price. That is over $11k under MSRP, maybe next year at this time if they have any 2019s left over you may be able to get one but of course your color combination may not be available. You never know though, maybe one will pop up for you.

I think its only about 10k off the RWD MSRP, but, yeah, color combo may prove tough. Guess it depends on how patient I can be . Right now I see 2019 white w/black, under 5k miles, for slightly under 50k.

Oh, didn't realize you wanted a RWD. Most folks in that area go for the AWD. Are you in Eastern or Western PA? I grew up outside of Allentown.

I see a 2018 G80 Sport for $41k down in Philly.

Very true on the AWD. I live in Harrisburg, but travel all over the US most of the time, so really am not there driving in winter much. I have a pickup also. And relocating to Georgia here in a bit...no AWD necessary!! I do see some lightly used 2018s, but would rather not have to worry about the trim issue (really a big reason I want the white Sport) that seems to be an issue with those, even if under warranty. Geez, I'm getting picky in my old age

I go back to the Harrisburg area every summer to visit the folks. They moved out there shortly after I moved to Colorado.

I don't think there is any difference in the trim issue with the 2019s, some folks are still experiencing the spotting/discoloration. If that is what you are referring to. I think some have reported being able to take care of it with polish/cleaners.

I was too, but I ended up with three calls and a good deal. Turned out to be well worth it for me, it saved a couple of hours haggling and got what I felt to be a good price. There were no long term calls or repercussions.

I haven't seen the solution in the thread I saw other than having it replaced; would feel better if it was fixable beyond replacing
