If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I'm wanting to drain and refill my trans to get some new fluid in it and make sure the level is correct. About how much fluid is needed after just a drain?

Not sure how much fluid, but the ZF 6-speed has lifetime fluid you shouldn't need to change. Also, the fluid is very expensive. Like several hundred dollars, it's not standard tranny fluid. I drove my 2009 4.6L to 205k miles without issue if it makes you feel better;)

You need 6 liters of fluid. You'll probably have half quart left over unless your fluid level was off to begin with cause of leak or something else. You'll end up putting about 4 liters while the car is off before it starts overflowing from the fill plug. Then another 1-1.5 liters once you start the car and go through the gears while it's running.
If your doing it yourself need a 8mm & 10mm allen/hex, T40 Torx, and a pump sprayer or a fluid transfer pump. Did the service a couple years back when the car was a little over 50,000 miles. Cars got to be level in the air whether on a hoist or using jack stands or ramps.

What gentauzf said, but FCP Euro also has a good complete kit with all new bolts for the service. And to snork, yes Hyundai doesn't require a trans service but ZF, the manufacturer of the transmission, call for it at 80-120k kilometers (50-75k miles) or 8 years. But that you got over 200k without changing fluid is impressive.

Thanks for the info. I got the pan changed and did the fluid fill per the procedure, pretty easy to do with 2 people. Only problem was the old drain plug didnt want to come out but since i was replacing the pan and it's a plastic plug i just drilled a hole in it to drain it. I also used some 1/4" pipe fittings and barb fittings to put on the end of my hose for the transfer pump to be able to fill the trans while the engine was running without having to try to hold a rubber hose next to the hot exhaust.

Has anyone actually done a walk thru on changing out the oil pain?

Where is the fill and drain plugs located on the 1st generation Genesis?

The transmission has a pan/filter so to change the filter the transmission pan has to be replaced. The ZF is also used in BMW, Bentley and other Euro makes. and fwiw no fluid is lifetime. Hyundai says lifetime which IMO means the lifetime of Hyundai's 100k mile warranty.

Yea the 'lifetime' fluid is more for the lifetime of the warranty, after that they dont care.

I used this site for guidance on doing the fluid change, just read through it 2-3 times so you really know what every step is and having someone on the top side to start the car and go through the gears makes it a lot easier while you are pumping in fluid and checking pan time (i used an infared temp gun). As for changing the pan its pretty easy, since it has the filter as part of the pan i picked one up off of Amazon that also came with the gasket and new bolts and it was only ~$50. Once the fluid is drained just take all the pan bolts out (i left 2 in loosely on opposite corners so the pan wouldnt just fall, then took those out while supporting the pan), then pull the pan down which takes a little effort just to get the filter pulled out of the bottom of the pump. then just lube up all the seals on the new pan/filter and bolt it back up. If i remember right the pan bolts were T40's, the drain was a 10mm allen, and the fill was a 8mm allen.

Checking & Filling the Fluid in the ZF 6 speed ZF6HP26 Transmission

Also for fluid it's not 'hundreds of dollars' if you are just doing a drain and fill. I used Ravenol 6HP fluid, it's a german company and designed for the ZF 6 speeds and I only heard good stuff about it. It's $62 on amazon for a 4 liter bottle, i bought 2 of those and have about 2 liters left over which i'll use if i want to do another flush again.

so with all the fluid and the new pan/filter i was only into everything for about $175.

The shop manager of The Hyundai dealership explained to me that the transmission is not to be fooled with! This guy carries everything needed to do an oil change exactly @ 3k miles! The Z transmission fluid is $1000/quart?!? So don’t F with it!!

that's a dealership I would probably never go back to if i where you if they straight up lied to you like that. Literally 100's of members here have done it themselves in their garages for a few hundred bucks and seen improvements from it. No fluid is 'lifetime fluid' and a 'sealed' transmission just means it will last the length of the factory warranty, after that the dealer doesn't care what happens

Exactly, nothing lasts forever

When I called my dealer, the literally had never heard of a ZF transmission before! They had to do research and then call me back to tell me they can't get the fluid, meaning, they just don't want to do it.

Interesting, so when do you recommend a transmission fluid change, I only have 65k+ miles...

I would do it soon, that's around the mileage ZF recommends the transmission be flushed at.
