  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Am I reading the brochure correctly. The LSD is only available on Sport RWD only? In some descriptions it seems like it’s standard on all sport models regardless of drivetrain.

LSD is on the sport AWD too. At least in the Canadian models but I think same goes in the US. I definitely have an LSD on my stock 3.3 sport AWD.

All 3.3 US models come with the rear LSD, doesn't matter if it's RWD or AWD. Also have the ability to fully disable traction control and has a "drift mode" where you can power slide all you want. The 2.0 RWD 6spd manual has one as well, unsure about the other 2.0 trims.

Thanks for the info! I was able to build a Dynamic AWD on the configurator and was hoping that had an LSD.

I think it depends on how shady/crafty your salesman at the dealership is. If they're good and you tip well (and it's the end of the month) they'll leave a package of LSD anywhere in the car for you.

In USA,
All 3.3T have LSD.
2.0T Dynamic RWD and Sport RWD have LSD.
6MT has LSD
I wish all 3.3Ts in Canada had the LSD but I understand why the 3.3T Prestige or the now-discontinued 3.3T Dynamic don't have them (cost).

In Canada, we only have the LSD in the 2.0T Sport RWD manual and 3.3T Sport AWD.

US 2019 3.3T AWD Dynamic has LSD

I have the 3.3T AWD in Canada, so no LSD.. Does the mean no drift mode? In winter it'll get the rear end out really nice. Same in the wet. In the dry, I find it will kick out but then it seems to save itself early. I haven't tried to hard though... Makes me wonder...

I figured the LSD was really only going to be useful on the track, which I don't do... AWD has been amazing in winter.

I prefer mescaline but I can no longer set aside an entire weekend solely for the experience and the recovery. Sorry, now what was the discussion again?

May still be able to use drift mode, but I'm not sure... Without the LSD, the G70 should still use brake based torque vectoring to get it to rotate.

It's a high-powered car with a heavily rear-biased AWD system - it will always be able to get sideways in low-traction conditions, LSD or no LSD. The benefit of an LSD is a more precise distribution of power across the rear axle, meaning it's easier to control what the rear is doing as the absolute limit of adhesion under acceleration. This doesn't meant the cars without the LSD can't slide on the power, the car will simply lose momentum (forward and sideways) more easily because it will want to send power to the inside wheel. Of course, on the street, none of this really matters - especially in super-slippery conditions like snow. There's so much power to the rear that you can always upset it, holding lurid slides pretty well as long as you please. Ask me how I know :)

In fact, the benefits of the LSD are masked by the AWD system itself, because the car will shift power forward to control the angle of attack, which has an even greater effect on how it behaves. This is the reason the engineering team originally didn't even spec the AWD models with the LSD at all, like Stinger. It was only when we argued the LSD would be of benefit on track and for true enthusiasts that they agreed to make it available for both driveline types.

Bottom line: the LSD is a fun tool that makes the rear of the car slightly more pointy, but in this platform the difference is not so dramatic on the street that anyone should worry too much about it. (Exception: in the pure RWD cars the U.S. sells, you definitely want the LSD for the 3.3T).
